Having pumpkin pie made from scratch for breakfast.
Posted By: Jim_Conrad Re: pumpkin pie - 11/28/19
I dont give a dang what the purists and food snobs say.

Pumpkin pie is best cold and served with a huge dollop of Cool Whip.

If you believe otherwise.....we can still be friends but you better not bring it up more than once.
Posted By: Jim_Conrad Re: pumpkin pie - 11/28/19
Wife was up till 9:30 roasting a pumpkin for dinner tonight!
Posted By: Jim_Conrad Re: pumpkin pie - 11/28/19
I just got the old MicroPlane out and grated some fresh nutmeg for the pie.

I will now take all the credit if the pie turns out........

Pecan pie and sweet potato pie is what southerners have.
Posted By: AKduck Re: pumpkin pie - 11/28/19
I agree....cold with cool whip.

Once! I like it best when still warm or at least room temperature, but still with the Cool Whip.

Thankgoodness no!

Gotta roast the pumpkin the night before you make your pie.

Good deal, leaves more for the rest of us.

Just found out nobody is bringing a pumpkin pie for today. Several other desserts but not a flippin pumpkin pie.

Kinda pissed now!

I must be the only one around here that cares.

Pecan pie is what northerners have and normal thinking southerners have. Sweet potatoe pie? It's worse than pumpkin pie. Don't get me wrong, I can eat both. However, on the totem pole of edible pies they are both in a battle for which one is on the bottom.

A can of Libby's puree, evaporated milk, spices, and a store bought crust is better than no pumpkin pie at all.

You mis-spelled punkin.
Posted By: Gringo Loco Re: pumpkin pie - 11/28/19
Love a good pumpkin pie. They certainly aren't all created equal. I've never made it, so don't know the secret, but sure do like the real deal.
Posted By: MadMooner Re: pumpkin pie - 11/28/19
Just ate a slice for breakfast!

Cold, no whip. Don’t have any in the house. No cream either. frown

Might have to make a run...
Posted By: BluMtn Re: pumpkin pie - 11/28/19
I love homemade pumpkin pie, but my ultimate craving (I know I am going to flamed) is a Costco pumpkin pie. I really like the flavor, I can eat one of those in one sitting.
Posted By: MadMooner Re: pumpkin pie - 11/28/19
Mines from Costco!

Didn’t want to say and put Jimbo in mood. Lol.
Posted By: rong Re: pumpkin pie - 11/28/19
It's my favorite, but Mrs Rong isn't really a baker,so we have to buy 'em. Which is fine,as Jim mentioned any punkin pie is better than none at all.

I haven't eaten one in many years, but HEB's plain apple pie used to be one of the best I'd ever had. And I've had some of the best pies of just about every stripe or flavor growing up from all the church ladies during fellowship gatherings. Oh man, southern home made cooking all-you-could-stuff-your-gut-with bonanzas those were ... casseroles, roasts, fried chicken, roast chicken, pies, cakes, cobblers, rolls and breads, sides, gravy and all the fixn's. I don't know if HEB's current apple pie matches those I remember though. I remember I tried one from Tom Thumb that tasted like artificial syrupy goop. That got trashed.
Posted By: Rock Chuck Re: pumpkin pie - 11/28/19
When Costco can sell those big ones so cheap, it's not worth making your own. They taste darn good, too. I was in there a couple days ago and they had 2 pallets of them sitting out. One lady must have been a Mormon having a family dinner. She had no less than 30 of them on a flat cart.

BTW, pumpkins, zucchini, acorns, and many of the squash varieties are all the same species, all bred from the original pumpkin. Most pies and pie fillings aren't pumpkin, they're one of the various squash varieties.

Costco pies are awesome! I bought 4 yesterday. 2 pumpkin, 1 apple, 1 pecan. They are better than any pie on the market!

*make* whipped cream? Ain’t nobody got time for dat!

only 2 kinds of pie. Hot and cold and i like them all. I'll eat key lime pie if it's the only option, but prefer not to

Ditto for breakfast, though will admit mine is a Costco. It is not as good as homemade but it will do for me this morning. Wish I could have one of my mother's homemade pumpkin pies made with black molasses and those little pie pumpkins I grew in our garden.

I prefer it cold and straight, am not a fan of CoolWhip (though I like home whipped cream skimmed from the jar). Black coffee helps pumpkin pie fly.

Am in process of making a wild huckleberry pie made with pure rendered black bear lard.

I had homemade apple pie with my coffee . After the big meal Im going to cut the pecan pie made with sorghum molasses .

I think every Costco store brings in a couple semi's loaded with nothing but pies. They sure have the market cornered here.

Sometimes when I fart, it smells like pumpkin pie. And that's without eating it ever.

I can't eat something that smells like fart.

Pies over cakes any day of the week. I enjoy pumpkin, but cherry is at the top for me. Redi-Whip is better than Cool Whip.

GrandMother used to always make them for Thanksgiving.
Hated them. Not a fan of pumpkin pie either.

Mom always made pecan pie and German chocolate cake on Thanksgiving. They were awesome!
This is my second Thanksgiving since she passed.
Really missing her and also her great cooking today.

Mrs slumlord usually makes a pecan pie and a chess pie

All we got was a homemade coconut cake.

I hate to get all ike turner about the situation, she's still has 3 days off from that worky job.

Maybe she should've spent less time on the little salty slugs she calls green beans.

I know this will put Big Jim in a tizzy...

The Sams Club pumpkin pie i had today was pretty damn good.

Also...

Yankees eat pee-can pie.

In the dirty south it’s pah-con pie.
Posted By: luv2safari Re: pumpkin pie - 11/28/19
I just made mine from scratch...well, used canned pumpkin...and had to use almond flour for the crust, almond milk instead of cream, and Stevia instead of sugar.

The beeper just went off as I'm writing. Time to taste test diabetic pumpkin pie. sick

Oh well...it beats no pumpkin pie.

Cold, it's good for breakfast. But as an after supper dessert, warm with real whipped cream (from the can haha) is uber.

My daughter made 2 today, one for her and one for me as we're the only ones in the house that eats them. Never had a from scratch punkin pie I can remember, though the crusts are always from scratch.

Pecan pie was supposed to be on the menu as well, but someone's grocery list for the monthly grocery run didn't have pecans on it. frown

Funny, pumpkin pie is the only pie (dessert) I’ll eat. Love it during the holidays with a bit of whipped cream.

I’ll spend hours picking berries, cherries and apples for my wife to make pies and cobblers. Don’t eat them though, never acquired a taste. Family enjoys my portions for sure.

Ate dinner then all of us loaded up two trucks and took the parents dinner who couldn't make it because mom is still recovering from hip surgery. Spent a fews hours with them came back home and had cold pumpkin, pecan pie with ice cold freshmade whipped cream.

It was a darn good day.

my 6 year old abut 2 weeks ago asked to make a pumpkin pie for his birthday, from a pumpkin he got at school. So Daddy and step-mom did it and had him help. Get the whole thing done and he says "I don't like pumpkin pie" trying to not be frustrated I said why did you want to make one then. and in the most innocent 6 year old explanation ever, he said "I wanted to make a pie for you to share together on my birthday"
Sweetest child I have ever met in my life, until he is pissed at his older brother, and the kid, while smaller fights dirty. LOL
