For those of you in Northern Colorado 0r any close distance, check out Scheels in Johnstown about 40 miles north of Denver. An all sports store that carries everything. Two stories and each is bigger than Cabelas or Bass Pro. .Nicer, knowledgeable people and the prices a bit lower. It was a 2.5 hour drive for us , but I am impressed.
SLC............3 hrs away each way......no thanx
They are employee owned and most of the sales people know more than other stores workers in my experience.
Been to the one in Reno. Could spend hours in there.
SLC............3 hrs away each way......no thanx
I would take much more than a store to get me to want to drive any distance to SLC.
SLC............3 hrs away each way......no thanx
I would rather someone beat me with a stick than make me drive through SLC.
Gotta do it twice a year anyway.
Good store - very friendly staff (Cedar Falls and Coral Ridge Mall).
Just went to my very first Scheels this week.
Went to the one in Omaha and the one in Lincoln.
Picked up an Atlas PSR bipod in Lincoln (Merry Christmas to me!)
Friendly and knowledgeable staff, incredible selection. Bass Pro/Cabelas best pray they don’t start putting them in the southeast.
The one in Springfield, ILL, is EXTREMELY overpriced. Somebody has to pay for such a fancy store. Sorry, I'll do biz at Buds', Graf's, Midway, etc. I buy too much stuff to be tossing away 5 k a year extra.
Decent prices, selection- great customer service!
I have one 20 miles from me,I spend a fair amount of time and money there much to my wife displeasure. Nice store
The Scheels in Billings is one of the newer ones that has a Ferris Wheel in the store. The store is huge and very nice with good help. There has been a Scheels in Billings for as long as I can remember. It was Scheels Hardware when I was a kid.And that was a long time ago.

Your math is broken. Your wife is Asian, have her look at it.

Don't respond or try to debate that fuucktard. It's like having a war of wits with an unarmed moron.
I buy from them online love the service and prices. Wish there was one around here.
At the mall in West Des Moines. I prefer the Sportsman's Warehouse in Ankeny. About 5 to 10% better prices at Sportsman's.
kwg
I discovered the Scheels store in Rapid City almost 20 years ago. Was really great to hear they were building one locally but it was delayed for some time. Less than 30 minutes from my house and is now my only sporting goods store
Was at Scheels in KC Saturday, but wife was with me so purchases were limited.
Was at Scheels in SLC last night and wife wasn’t with me....
They’ve got pretty good sales from what I’ve seen. Free shipping over $50 right now.
Cheesy - you were about 4 miles from my house if you were at the KC scheels...
Saddlesore nailed it - they operate more like Cabelas when they hired people who had experience.
Went to the one in Billings over the summer. I was extremely impressed with the store and the staff.
I bought Tikka’s (Scheels did special imports like others) from Scheels before they even came into KS ....
Good store - they shipped them to my FFL..
Started here in Fargo ND. I used to fix the furnaces for the founder when it was a hardware store. I also went to school with a grandson of them. They were/are all very nice people.
Scheels in Rapid is a great store. I shopped there and at the Cabela's not far away until Bass Pro ruined the Cabela's. Now it is just Scheels for me.
If Slumlord reads this thread he might stroke out.

West Des Moines Scheels is the worst Scheels that I have been in.
Suppose to open one inColorado Springs in 2021
Saddlesore: I am lucky, in that Montana (no sales tax!) has two Scheels stores that I frequent.
One is in Great Falls (215 miles from me!) and the other is in Billings (260 miles!).
I always "budget" for stopping at Scheels whenever I go Hunting or gun chasin in their areas.
Great selection, nice people I wish prices were a bit better sometimes, but I have bought a LOT of gear from them.
Maybe I should get on there mail catalog list?
Glad you enjoyed yourself there at Scheels.
Hold into the wind

Been to the KC store a couple times and I hate to drive in KC
Haven't been to Scheels in a long time. The one in Sioux Falls had a hellofa markup, imagine they still do.
Our whole family loves Scheels!
Maybe they will build one down here!
The only downside to them I have found recently is the used gun section. Used to be able to go to them and they had racks full of neat used stuff to browse through. Last few I have been inside had maybe 30-40 used guns. The new stuff is great but the old classics are neat to dig through
There has been one in Sioux Falls as long as I can remember, always my favorite place to stop. Has always been far better than Cabelas/Bass Pro. Willing to deal on used guns also, especially if you know the manager. For us online nut jobs, there is almost always a better deal somewhere...but Scheels handles almost everything and has great staff. I never buy optics there thanks to Doug, but both of my boys just bought Kennetreks at a price you couldn't find anywhere else.
Been to the one in SLC a few time. Nice store, lots of stuff, like that they deal with used guns, like the TREK bike shop, aquarium is amazing. Didn't buy much as prices were about full retail. If you are selective and only buy stuff that is on sale it would be good. I'll go in when I'm down there but sure not making a 3 hr trip just for that.
I love Scheels. The are active in and support the community as well.
Shipping? My gosh, it is like they shipped it 2 days before i ordered it! Seriously, it is always here the next day.
Maybe they will build one down here!
In the middle of DFW, north
Opens this spring I believe
That rich guy in Omaha talked them into building
This will be the biggest store they have ever built.
Can't wait.

Be aware that this Scheels store is in an area that charges a 4.5% Public Improvement Fee on top of the 4.7% Sales tax. This was my first time shopping there. Good news was they had Reloder 26 in stock, but with the extra fee, I won't be back.

Coming to The Colony, Tx this spring.
331,000 square feet.

That is only about 1/2%of Colorado Springs tax.Bass Pro has the same type of tax here also
We don't have any around here. I went to there website and poked around. Looks like their prices are pretty close to MSRP on guns and shooting stuff. They have some of the highest end bicycles I have seen at a big box store. That gets a thumbs up from me.

Online pricing and going into the store and chatting with a knowledgeable salesman will usually get the price down.
I have no problem paying a little more for something when I can deal face to face with a business that has excellent customer service. I feel lucky to have two stores within easy driving distance from my home and another about 30-45 minutes of my hunting camp. Great in store prices. I buy about 15-20 cases of shot shells a year from them.

Interestingly, the initial concept behind Dicks was to offer quality merchandise and staff their stores with people who knew the product. Specialists if you will. They reckoned that folks wouldn't mind paying the higher price if they got quality customer service from capable sales associates.
If you are serious about buying, I don't think you will be disappointed with Scheels.

SS,
Thanks for the heads up.
I"ll check it out next time I'm in that area.
