FNC’s Wallace: Trump Is ‘Engaged in the Most Direct, Sustained Assault on Freedom of the Press in Our History’

Speaking during an event honoring the First Amendment at the Newseum in Washington D.C., Fox News anchor Chris Wallace accused President Donald Trump of assaulting freedom of the press.
Wallace said, “I believe that President Trump is engaged in the most direct, sustained assault on freedom of the press in our history.”
He continued, “He has done everything he can to undercut the media to try and delegitimize us. I think his purpose is clear to raise doubts when we report critically about him and his administration that we can be trusted.”
He added, “Let’s be honest the president’s attacks have done some damage. A Freedom Forum Institute poll this year found 29 percent of Americans think the First Amendment goes ‘too far.’ And 77 percent say ‘fake news’ is a serious threat to our democracy.”
He concluded, “The bottom line is we’ve seen Presidents come and go. We will endure. So will Freedom of the Press.”

Ah, so he supports 'freedom of the press'. But not individual freedom of speech.
I don't recall anything about 'the press' in the bill of rights...….I do seem to recall something about 'the people'.
Amendment I Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Best thing the press can do is investigate and report fairly, without bias, the news. The press does that, and they may regain respect. You know, be a REAL JOURNALIST.
They all sound like a bunch of petulant children that have always gotten their way, and Trump is the bad man that is trying to make them mind their manners.

I cant see him or Piglosi or Nadless laying it on the line like this and being so sure of themselves without knowing something we dont know. They seem to have no concerns as to the downside of their endeavor if they dont win.
That does concern me. It's like they know something we dont.

If they were honest, there wouldn't be much difference between the reporting/news between the various channels..............
Reality is, you can switch channels and come to the conclusion that you are not even in the same hemisphere............

The truth of it is that the media has been lying to the public for so long that they think it is their job to "control exactly what people think" Remember when Mika Brzezinski used those exact words? I've never even heard democrats assert that Trump has signed an executive order forbidding the press from printing and reporting. He responds and, yes, he attacks them. It's about time. That is clearly an assault on the press; but, how is that an assault on "freedom" of the press?

They're not used to being called out for their attacks. Instead they expect everyone to sit and take it like GWB did. Freedom of the press refers to the freedom belonging to everyone to use mass communication to disseminate their ideas to a general audience. It doesn’t apply to any institution or profession as a class to themselves.
If he has done everything he can to limit freedom of the press how can CW say what he said?
The Liberals in the media make more ad dollars from demonizing the Pres then they can analyzing what they could do to win in 2020. That’s the bottom line here.
