Good for you Jim. The first 10 pounds is the hardest. The doc tells me 120/80 is a good place to be, 130s and 80s aren't that bad.

Several years back my BP was through the roof, they took me in the back room and had me lie down when they checked it when I went in about another minor thing. iirc it was around 225/125, they were a bit freaked out. They put me on BP meds that brought it down. Further testing found a whole bunch of chit wrong, years not seeing a doc and not taking care of yourself will do that I guess. I cleaned up my act started eating better and in my case it was best to give up the sauce too. Within 6 months with all that, and probably more exercise too, and I was able to ditch the pills, down around 130/80.

seriously..........do you check your BP ?

if not....splurge on yourself.......$30-40 on Amazon

simple to use.......easy to check your BP at home........

Could save your azz...........

Bacon, ham or sausage “everyday” with 3 eggs and hash browns. Blood pressure, I know that it’s a little high....but, it would be a lot higher if I didn’t get to eat my routine breakfast! memtb

112/80 and 55 bpm resting pulse

My doctor said the 80 is too high and is considered pre-hypertension

Must be that good Idaho air, mine was 106 / 60 at my physical last week. Pulse in the low sixties. Nurse had to break out the manual cuff and stethoscope because the gizmo couldn’t find it.......

Which reminds me, I need to take out some sausage for breakfast.
124/74 69 pulse, only medicine i take is estrogen. crazy
After driving to town and waiting in the office it's on the low side but normal for me.

Have had attacks long ago when the two measurements were the same and the rate was 172.

Freaked out those in the er where they took me.

They gave me two doses of some kind of meds that was supposed to stop it.

The second double dose did the trick.

Spent two days and over 14,000 bucks to find out i have a third nerve that when stressed kicks in.

When coughing like when the pollen get right .

The blood pressure folks ask me what kind i have and i tell them boringly normal.
They agree.
Went to the doctor last week for a wellness check

128 over 78.
Pulse 56
Oxygen level 99%

Not bad for nearly 57 and no medication.
Nice, my Wife ran a test and chilled me down back in the obongo years, she purposefully engaged me in a heated political discussion, every man here knows how our women can push our buttons if they want too, after five minutes of me thinking she had completely lost her mind and was ready to sear a t-bone on my forehead, she pulled a cuff from under the coffee table, slapped it on me, 190/110 pulse 90, I yanked the thing off and ask, so, what was the point of this little pop quiz!!?\

She said calm down dear, don't let the 'stupids' kill you, then they win. she's a pretty smart chicken.
121/78 78 pulse

Not bad for having a few cocktails.
And to be honest with everybody I struggle to keep the CDL in the physicals. Still legal still have it. Most of my stress is metal related right now with all the factors going on what's In My Life of people I know.

135/85 at the Dr isn't high IMHO. It was not long ago that 130/70 was norm. They keep lowering the number. I told my doc one day its going to be so low for the norm I'll be dead if I'm normal. He laughed.

Mine floats from about 120/60 to 145/90 appx. I'm not loosing any sleep over it.

Testing it. I can do it myself. But I know my body and I can tell if its up and needs checking. Even when its up its not serious. But I am aging like all of us.
120 over 60 iirc.
Pulse 82.
Had been 90-92 for last 30 yrs.
No meds
Mid 50's
120/80. Pulse around 90 BPM.

I just renewed my CDL health card a couple weeks ago, pee in a cup, bp, hearing, vision, walking around rocked back on your heels, still don't know what in hell that's for, turn and cough, damn that's embarrassing, I'm 58 and he renewed it for two years, so guess I'm GTG, funny thing is, i haven't driven the big black W900 since last April.

My problem I guess is Stress and Anxiety. I spent a good part of my day with a phone and Bluetooth headset and I'm sitting in a dozer or tractor sometimes truck. Managing other people. Sumr f****** idiots. And that gets hard to disconnect sometimes. Anna some dumbass Polska politics card it's off the charts. Try not to stroke out. I have been put in the ER with numbers like 195 / 130

I check mine all the time.

Doc says I need to go on drugs but I'm trying the walnut diet first.

Haven't had any chest burning/discomfort in over a month.

Just checked, 131/90, pulse 96.

Drinking one bottle of Jim Beam per weekend seems to be helping.

I have been able to be off meds for almost a year now

121/71

before meds about 10 years ago it was 160/98

kinda proud of the fact I've been able to stop taking it - I was up to 40mg of Toprol.

although my doc isn't happy about 121 she isn't going to mess with me about it as I'm borderline.

Gunner, I'm either pacing around the house or sleeping!

And like Jim, I've cut way back on the booze.

Drink beer on the weekend...

Having a couple O'Douls tonight.
Yesterday at the clinic, 125 over 70. Pulse 82. Weight 168, age 69! Not doing to bad so far! Now if I can shake this flu, things would be better.

107/71, 79 pulse.
Mine goes up and down. I never know where it's going to be. I check it fairly regularly. It's never gotten crazy high,...but sometimes it'll be perfect and sometimes it creeps up to a slightly worrisome level.
Posted By: DaveR Re: What's your blood pressure ? - 01/23/20
Average nowadays is 120 / 75. That's on 20mg Lisinopril. Used to hover around 145 / 85 and often higher.

Main issue now is pulse. Used to average mid-60's. These days I'm mid-40's. Too low.
Posted By: EdM Re: What's your blood pressure ? - 01/23/20
At my previously mentioned physical the PA's assistant measured mine at 148/82. Given where I normally my PA did it old school and got it right.
Doing CDL physical a few years ago, the nurse checked my book pressure.

Then, the pretty Redhead doc did the physical. At the end, I'm sitting on the table, she steps between my legs, grabs my knees and feels her way toward my crotch, on the inside. Then, she checked my BP.

"That's odd, your BP is a little higher now than when you walked in?
But it's still OK."

Any guy whose blood pressure didn't go up,
must shoot a 270!

Normally, 120-135 over 80's.
3 pills to be there.
I fired two doctors a few months ago.I had to switch doctors because of insurance changes a couple of years ago.The first thing she did was change my BP med because she didn't like the one I had been on for nine years,She put me on Valsartan for a year and switched me to Telmisartan because some brands of Valsartan may cause cancer. The Telmisartan seemed to work fine for a few months and then I started noticing if I was doing any strenuous activity,my muscles seemed to shut down.I also noticed when I'd start sweating,I seemed to sweat way more than normal for the activity I was doing.I also noticed my heart felt like things just weren't right. When it got hot in the summer,I could not tolerate the heat at all.I started monitoring, things a little closer. When I'd mow my yard for say 20min,my BP would drop to like 100/60 and my pulse would be about 125.I would just be pouring sweat.I'd also get lightheaded too.I was thinking damn it sucks to get older.I was 62 at the time and worked outdoors all my life,WTF.I started noticing I could be resting for a couple of hours and my pulse was running 95bpm.My normal heart rate should have been in the 60's .I looked up the side affects of Telmisartan and I had quite a few of the ones listed. Also the med caused Hyperhydrosis,so that explained why I was sweating so much.So I went to my doctor with a list of my readings and issues I was having and she tried to tell me that was normal and refused to change my meds. She sent me to a cardiologist. He said that was normal and also trusted my doctors judgement because he said he had the same training she did as far as meds were concern.I was starting to get pissed because I knew this was not normal for me.So reluctantly he put me on Diltiazem.I could tell a big difference right away. The first month everything was great, the second month, not so great. My BP was staying fairly constant 160/100.I was getting frustrated by now and decided to fire my doctor. The so called cardiologist she sent me to apparently didn't qualify as a specialist because I got rein burst for over co-pay.I found me a very good Internal Medicine Doctor. He put me back on the Carvidilo and Ramipril that I had been on for nine years. He asked me if my feet were swelling from the Diltiazem I had been taking.I told him I hadn't noticed it.He checked my feet and said yes they are swelling.I still didn't notice it until that very same night,my feet had very noticeable swollen,a side affect of the Diltiazem. Now my BP is running 120's over 80's range, heart rate back to my normal, had EKG,physical, everything checks out good and I feel great.Just shows you,a bad doctor will slowly kill you and a good doctor can help keep you healthy. If things aren't going right with you,you know it and if your doctor can't help you, fire their ass. After all, they work for you. This is a good site to check out your doctor or you are looking for one. https://www.caredash.com/doctors/minh-nguyen-md-corpus-christi-tx

Youthful enthusiasm. I would give her the most disappointing 2 minutes of her life.
Mine varies depending on conditions, like how much exercise I've been getting, general health, why am I at the doctor's office to get it measured in the first place, etc etc.

Had an instance a few years back, had been injured and not able to do my normal physical routine, had been being fed by the cooks on the tug boats I worked with (they love that Johnnie's seasoning stuff), and was in some pain from the injury and normal arthritis crap. BP had crept up to the 130-140 area on the high side, near 90 on the low side. Doc (PA) wanted to give me friggen pills, of which I'd checked out the side effects. My response: "do you think I could just try going back on my normal lower salt diet, get back to my normal exercise/work routine, and maybe once this pain subsides even more we can retest the BP then". His answer "well yes, we could do that I guess" Within a few weeks I was back at their medically established 120/80 "normal" level.

Those of you with the home testers like pictured above may want to bring them in and have them checked against an old school sphygmomanometer and a stethoscope used by an experienced practitioner, like EdM. I had one that I had checked and it was somewhere near 20 points off on the high end. I've had them test mine with the little wrist ones and the electronic gizmo and then test with the scope and manometer and found significant differences.

Yesterday the assistant at the retinal doc took mine, something like 118/93 and said it's a little high when I asked. Mmmmnn? maybe driving 170 miles on wet/icy/snow packed roads like this after a couple of cups of strong black coffee might have contributed to that? There was only about 50 miles of that, the rest were a bit "nicer", but still enough to add some stress to Geno's world

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

Fortunately, this guy made life a bit easier for the drive:

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

Have seen a few studies and talked with a couple of medical professionals that have said what's "normal" for one person may not be normal for someone else. And more than one has pointed out that as we age it's "normal" for our BP to increase some due to less elasticity in our vessels. And the best thing to do is STAY ACTIVE. Which is hard to do when one is in pain, has the flu, has a job that requires sitting and dealing with A-holes and all that.

If I can keep mine between the 120/80 on a good day and down around the 140/95 (tops) on the bad days I'm pretty happy and so are my doctors.

Jim, stay off the tobacco, you'll be better off in the long run. 32 years or so for me on April 1. And good luck with the weight loss, it gets way tougher to deal with when you reach retirement age.

Good luck to the rest of y'all too.

Geno
These are great for lowering blood pressure.

you know its high when you bust a nut and get a bad headache.
Just walked in after my 6 month routine check up. 117 / 70. Yes, I'm on blood pressure meds, cholesterol meds, thyroid meds, and uric acid meds. All of my blood work is great, except my liver function (GGT). Doc keeps telling me to drink less beer. mad
Originally Posted by stxhunter

Yeah, before I went on meds, my BP was hanging around 150 / 100. I used to get headaches that felt like my head was going to explode. No more headaches and I'm a lot cooler and calmer. I don't get pissed off so easy anymore.
I can pretty much tell my blood pressure by looking at my dip-stick.
125 -130/70-80. Used to regularly be 150/100. 5'3.5", 175 pounds, almost 65 years old, weight lift regularly, and heavy. Got divorced, married my old HS girlfriend, the Goddess of Sex, and here I am...

I finally got around to checking this morning, after 2 cups of coffee, and attempting to relax. BP - 141/85 Heart rate - 57

My systolic number was 115 - 120 when in HS, can’t remember the diastolic! memtb
Mine runs around 120/75. I started CrossFit back in July and have lost 45 lbs. I’m 6’ 210 lbs. the only meds are for cholesterol and if next blood test comes back clean I’m off those completely.
Before heart attack 179 after heart attack and stent 110/70.......almost checked out early......
135,,86 w/60pulse

I take the full dose of meds having had my chest opened and some parts added, my diet includes ass much fat and bacon as I can eat. Probably (yea right) the fact that my alcohol consumption has been at an all time high for 50 years now and doesn't show any signs of slacking off. All in all there has been some exciting times and lucky to have pulled it off moments!
Mine runs 130’s over 90ish when I take med right. Came back from archery elk hunt this fall feeling good , thought I’d try it weaned off for a bit. No head pressure etc. Went to the dentist and they asked if I wanted it checked....174/110 .back on meds. My heart rate is always in mid 90’s

My triglycerides checked in at 1200 once after a blood test and I had a nurse yelling at me on the phone , she had no sense of humor. I make sure I have enough life insurance to take care of my wife well
As of this afternoon, 132/74, 61 BPM. Mine has been like that +/- a couple of points for 40 years. No meds.

L.W.
165/100 pulse was 80 something. Just got started with BP pills and the doc is working on dialing in what I need. So far it’s hydrochlorothiazide and lisinopril. After a month she will recheck bp and kidney function and adjust.
Just went to the endocrinologist today. BP 120 over 64, a little higher than last time, but pretty good for 77 years old and 277 pounds.

maybe so, but i would take into account what he does for a living and in what weather.
i have had high blood pressure since i was a kid. interesting enough, pulse is generally around 60.
mine is trying to get in down, currently running about 140/70 with medication.
four the last four months i was checking four times a day during a 24 hour period. I told the quack a couple of days ago, when i was 11 it was around that range. my dad commented on it to the doctor, his comment was different strokes for different folks.
i was told by the u.s. army during a preinduction physical at age 18 i wouldn't make it to 30. in my 20's i was told i would not make it to my 50's. I am now 72 and the quack said my heart/lungs are good.
my problem is basically my blood vessels don't expand and contract.
and i have a high fight/flee complex.
i have to control my temper.
i am also from central europe like terry. I was told that belly i have was a way of coping with harsh winters. i store food easily. and that was a doctor telling me that.
my mother lived to be about 93. in her late 80's doctor said she had a fluttery heart valve. you think?

Daaaym....that’s better than mine was in HS. Whatever your doing, keep it up. A century or so ago and running marathons, I had a very low “resting” pulse rate. But, I had no idea what my BP was......probably still high. Monitoring your “resting” pulse rate ( immediately upon waking in the morning), was a good way to determine if you were “overtraining”! memtb
I have had 2 heart surgeries ( stents ) and my blood pressure was just fine ! you may still have plaque buildup in the arteries and heart attack happens when a few of them separate and clog your artery . see a heart doctor and and have an MRI done to visually see if there is any build up and always carry chewable aspirin and one more thing . heart attack does not feel the same as they show on movies , mine was diagnosed as stomach flu ! and almost killed me.
Part of my retiree health care plan from Aetna includes an annual "wellness check" , or something like that, as they call it. A nurse comes to the house and checks all the routine stuff, blood press., oxygen level in the blood with that gizmo on your finger, etc., and asks you 50 questions. Age 69, only pills are a statin for cholesterol and my blood pressure was almost perfect, ( forgot the exact numbers ). At my age "almost perfect" is more than good enough for me.
110/72
"heart attack does not feels the same as they show on movies"

My best friend thought he was having a bad stomach ache for 3 days before the pain got too bad and his wife drove him to the emergency room. They figured out real quick that the pain was in his heart muscle. Turns out that he had a 98% blockage in his "widow maker" artery. He didn't have a heart attack because his body had grown a small bypass around blockage. He had no heart muscle damage and was fine after he recovered from quadruple bypass surgery.
When I first get up in the morning my BP is 120/70 or less and my HR is 60 or less. Your BP is naturally going to go up when you're active during the rest of the day. I HATE going to the Doc or Dentist so it's always higher (as high 160/80 sometimes) so I take my BP the morning of my appointment so I can tell the nurse what my BP was when I got up and she makes a note of it. My cardiologist doesn't get excited over the "white coat syndrome".
Rewarming this thread from last week because I had one of those insurance wellness checks yesterday and I'm way high at 165/100 even with 100 Mg of Losartan potassium and 25 Mg of Hydrochlorothiazide and it has me spooked some. While I'm real envious of all you guys with the naturally low bp, I'm more interested in what guys like Roger and Salty303 and any of you others are taking to get your own bp down to normal levels without adverse side effects? I get an yearly Medicare physical and I suspected that my bp meds were not working well back in August, but my doc is a PE and not an MD and while he can prescribe meds, I think that he was reluctant to change what a previous MD had prescribed. What has been working for you guys?

Many years ago I read a Journal of Medicine report where they tracked folks who took high blood pressure meds for 25+ years - on average they lived 52 DAYS longer than folks with high blood pressure who took no meds.
Last week my optometrist's nurse took my blood pressure and it was 128 over 78. But she had "big'uns" and seemed intent on showing them to me and rubbing them on me?
There is something to be said for a good old fashioned heart attack!

Hanco: You and "DelFarve" seem to think "this impeachment crap is over" - I am not being contrary here for contraries sake but this "crap" is just getting rolling - the demonrats have all manner of devioushit up their sleeves to pull out on President Donald J. Trump - including (I heard yesterday on NPR!) a 30 year old "rape" accusation!
Keep taking your meds (blood pressure meds if you take'em) it's only gonna get WORSE!

BP 110/65. I'm another runner (tri guy). The spike is my daily workout. The no data areas are because I don't wear the Garmin at night.

I have a new doctor, and I am now taking 100mg of Metoprolol, and 20 mg of Enalipril for angina/hypertension a day.

She kept my Metoprolol at 100mg as before, but upped my Enalipril by 10mg. She also added 10mg of Onglayza for my diabetes to my old one of 2000mg of Metformin a day.

She said that the Hydrochlorathiazide I was taking was not a medication that I needed, and that the side effects I had been experiencing from it were more detrimental to my health condition than anything. The Hydrochlorathiazide is GONE.

Note that I had been on the same hypertension and blood sugar meds for 16 years.

In 6 weeks my BP has gone from anywhere between 180-150 over 120 or so, to 107-117 over 71-81. It is amazing how good it makes me feel. My pulse rate is down from 120-160 (180+ on extreme occasions) to 70's to mid 80's. My blood sugar levels are also dropping. The number of trips to the ER in an ambulance has fallen from OFTEN to none, and that is also amazing.

She also reminded me that caffeine/sodium/fat/sugar are natural enemies of my body and therefore moderation in all, and that walking/moving and proper rest are a great booster for lowering both my blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

She told me that every year your medication levels, and your medications themselves should be addressed and adjusted so as to give our bodies better chances at healing, or at least maintaining a healthier level of existence.

I like her, I thinking I am going to keep her.

Good luck on your quest to lowering your vitals and keeping them that way.

134/76.

Just had a physical yesterday with a fasting blood Draw. She said my blood work was almost perfect. Blood sugar was 101.

I eat bacon and eggs every morning, beef, spinach, baby carrots ,peanuts or trail mix, protein bars and protein drinks from Walmart.

I also drink apple cider vinegar every day and Metamucil orange smoothie. Phouck plant based diets for me. Everyone is different, you have to find what works for you.
Oh yeah I am 6’4 and 245.
Holy smokes Miss Lynn, that is a pronominal difference! I wrote down your recipe to discuss with the doc along with the Dictazem, Lisinopril and Toprol that others had mentioned. I'm told that there are like five different families of bp medicines and that it is easy to control. You mentioned a good night's sleep, but that Hydrochlorathiazide is nothing more than a diuretic and it wrings the juice out of me like a sponge and you aren't sleeping when you are heading for the bathroom.
At least one of you mentioned salt in your diet and Sweetness just bought a salt cured ham that we just ate through. I'm remembering my neighbor up north that I took to the grocery store and he bought a big piece of ham and a week later he was dead from a massive heart attack.
Varmint Guy mentions his eye doctor and it reminds me of my dental hygienist that needs to drape herself over me and my ears seem to be one of her favorite resting places. She takes my bp there too and it was like another red flag when she said my bp was almost too high to work on me. It probably got even higher after she did. Time I took this stuff real seriously.

The best antidote for salt is sweat, which contains roughly 1,000 mg/l.
Lisinopril made me cough so bad i strain my groin, i'm take clonidine now.
9.7/100

When I was younger.

These days, more like 120/72 a couple days back. Doc gave me a limited one year warranty.

Exactly, human bodies may seem similar, but they are not perfect clones of each other, we are not one thing fits all.

117/67 pulse is 77. Not bad for a 69 YO 350# man. Had a stint put in about a year and a half ago. I take a BP pill at night, supposed to take it twice a day, but it makes me light headed.

When they do it the old fashion way it's usually better than that. Last time I went in it was 102/54. After the doctor comes in and harasses me for a while it usually goes up some.
125/85 / 102 . i feel like shiat . haven't had a decent meal since Tuesday.
134/69 71 yesterday waiting to see surgeon who cut off my right boob a week ago.....seems ok to me for a 72yr old cancer patient......getting your boob cut off and then finding out that the 11 weeks of hell from 4 chemo treatments did NOT kill the cancer....well calling me unhappy is a slight exaggeration! Pissed? oh hell yes!!!!! chemo bout killed me and then find out it didn't kill the tumor???? why I think my bp is great considering....no bp meds....oncologist took me off it cause it was too low!........
Well mine's low tonight.
