Short days, long nights. Crappy weather. The hustle and bustle of the Holidays is behind us. Spring is still a few months away.

What do the 'fire folks do to keep cabin fever at Bay?

I limed, fertilized and tilled the garden Friday, will cut, split and stack the last 1 ton load of firewood Monday as well as fill the hay rings, rains coming for three days after that, Wife said beet, cabbage and onion planting are right around the corner.

Reload, shoot, clean guns, workout, hike.

And those two five gallon buckets of chicken litter I shoveled out of the composter last Friday will start soaking in nicely after three days of rain on the plum trees, muscadine hedge row and fig trees. smile

The rest of you emotional limpdicks can sit back and enjoy negro appreciation month.

Tilling the garden, working 50 hours a week, chasing wifey a little.
Posted By: sidepass Re: Cabin Fever is Real - 02/02/20
Go to work 6 days a week.

Gunner—i know you are one of the good guys—but I have a hard time relating to someone who can root-till the garden and then cut firewood. What the hell do you need the firewood for? Ambience?
I guess it takes a lot of different people to make a world.

I have to go cut firewood right now too—just to keep warm.

Get drunk and ramble on like a fool against anyone who comments on a thread you want to hijack.

At least that's what one guy in Alaska does.

Get in some range time
Reload too

A little shooting, weekly motocross ride. Yesterday helped BIL try to save his old ass barn. Short sleeve weather 70 degrees. SoCal sucks.
Posted By: lastofthebreed Re: Cabin Fever is Real - 02/02/20
We will get a few nice days here in SC over the next 6 weeks. Tomorrow is predicted to be 70+ degrees and lots of sunshine. I am breaking the boat out and going fishing. The landlocked stripers I pursue are comfortable in 55 degree water and, right now, it's 51-52 degrees. A day of warm sunshine on the water might just give them the urge to eat. I plan on being there to take advantage of that.

Fresh fish fillets, fish stew and fish tacos, that's how you fight cabin fever.

Aliens are real.

Reload, tie flies, build rods, flint knap, read, gearing up for some Hunter Ed classes, and process some of Cookie's photos. Oh, and go out to the office about 4 mornings a week.

Put out bait for bigfoot. A few cams too.
Posted By: Terryk Re: Cabin Fever is Real - 02/02/20
I put out trail cameras, so I can be in the woods. I was out yesterday, and a different place today. I usually keep them out to mid march or so.

LOL, you till in lime and fertilizer a month or so before you do your first planting, it remains beneficial for the rest of the seasons plantings as well, I cut and hand split firewood for exercise, it would be easy to write a check or buy a hydraulic splitter, plus a 166 dollar total electric bill for a 3K square foot house and two 1400 sq ft shop buildings is pretty sweet too.

Work. Coach. Donate time to various civic/community causes.
Hunt. Hike. Fish.
Build.

Cripes.

Anyone who doesnt have enough work, chores, or hobbies t stay involved and gets cabin fever is, imo, doing things wrong.

I bought another run-down farm and am tearing down most of the outbuildings and fixing up the farm house.

That's weird--why do you list your residence as Michigan if you actually live in Alaska?

Over the years the one thing I have observed in the different groups I follow is that the members quibble and squabble over minutiae.
That seems to be the typical coping mechanism.

Some just go outdoors and enjoy life's possibilities!
