All the crises over the years were just on tv. This one hit home. I am luckily still working but wife makes the bulk of the money at our house and as a therapist has to see people in person. Her job has stopped her from doing that as a precaution and as of today she is unemployed.

We borrowed some out of her 401k to get us thru in case it gets worse...we spent our $2500 savings trying to keep our dog alive (posted a week ago here) without luck.

Been paying down debt and I left a higher paying job due to some illegal activities the boss was doing...otherwise we would likely have had a lot more saved for this.

Gonna be tight. Makes me pretty angry that we are affected like this due to other people being stupid and selfish and spreading this...

I don't mind taking a hit for my own actions but when it's like this it's hard to swallow.

Hope the rest of you guys can hang in there and not be affected by this crap.

Heading out to pick up our dogs ashes. Even that place has precautions in place...call ahead and someone will bring it out to as not to spread this stupid virus.
Posted By: denton Re: Well it happened to me - 03/19/20
Stop the stupid virus? Hope that works. Seems to have been a lot of it going around for a long time.
Posted By: Valsdad Re: Well it happened to me - 03/19/20
good luck with it all, on top of saying goodbye to your companion.

Maybe the wife is eligible for Unemployment. It helps..........ask me how I know.

Hang in there my friend. If it's any consolation many members here are your friend.

I’ve been out since last Thursday, no income. Took insurance off of five vehicles, Don’t know what I’m gonna do about my mortgage maybe I’ll just give them 100 bucks a month. I have some cash in the bank to hold me over for a while I’m good with food for at least six months. I think this is gonna be a tough one.
Posted By: MadMooner Re: Well it happened to me - 03/19/20
I'm outta work too. Hope it lasts at least 4, but less than 12 weeks.

I'm actually getting some house projects done!
Posted By: luv2safari Re: Well it happened to me - 03/19/20
I think mortgages are subject to a 90 extension with the late payments added to the end with no penalties.
Stopping therapy seems silly. You don’t have to get that close to them I’d imagine. Same room yeah . Kinda like going to the store shopping close. Bad deal all around. Hope it’s not as bad as it seems like it will be for you guys.

Her clients are mentally challenged usually and as such do not leave the group home and also don't have the best habits when it comes to cleanliness...not sure if it's to protect them or her or both.

Good luck.

We just about went broke once because Oprah said she wasn't gonna eat anymore hamburger.

Tighten your cinch and get a going.

You'll be fine. Have faith and trust in God. You obviously have a good partner for life and that can get one through anything.

I think I can say we are all praying for you good folks going through hard times. If my banker did my net worth today, it would look a lot worse than just the few short weeks ago.

Good men mostly land on their feet.

I feel for you and good luck with everything. My wife and I are okay work wise so far and my employer is okay with me working from home if needed. I have a son in law who's a manager at a local restaurant and is laid off which is going to hurt them. I have grandkids from another daughter that are home from school which is affecting their parents ability to work. Hopefully this won't be a long term thing...
Posted By: rockinbbar Re: Well it happened to me - 03/19/20
Good luck!

Wish a quick recovery for you and for things to get back to normal soon.
Posted By: Blackheart Re: Well it happened to me - 03/19/20
You ain't alone. My wife and I have both been sent home from work and are living on savings as of this past Monday. This could potentially leave us bankrupt if it lasts for long.
Posted By: mjbgalt Re: Well it happened to me - 03/19/20
So the media weaponizes news of a virus to take down the president and somehow the people are the ones getting hurt and not one damn thing will happen to them.
It’s [bleep] up

Being that my business depends on people going out of town for whatever reason, It's looking pretty dismal right about now, Yesterday I went to the bank and applied for a line of credit that will get me through the next four months or so. After that.......

I don't even want to think about it.

Good luck staying well. That’s most important. I’m thinking people might have to set different priorities with these layoffs. I hate to say it but a lot of people are gonna save enough just eating at home to make a house payment or something on that order. Ed k

You have money concerns but can afford $2500 to try to keep fido alive and then even more $$ for cremation?

You have no money concerns. But I do feel for you about the pup. Hurts to loose a pup.
Posted By: mjbgalt Re: Well it happened to me - 03/19/20
Nope. 2500 included the cremation too. Couldn't really afford it but she was only 6 and a very special dog
Posted By: Bocajnala Re: Well it happened to me - 03/20/20
You couldn't afford it. Period. Especially with all this going on.

Hopefully you don't regret that decision too hard.

Well a few tests add up fast.

Not the point. I didn't ask opinions on my choices.
Posted By: Bocajnala Re: Well it happened to me - 03/20/20
Unfortunately that wasn't an opinion but a fact. I am sorry for your loss though, losing a dog is never easy.

If that's the worst thing you remember from this period of time you'll be doing alright I suppose

And now you’re building a rifle 😂 F uck

Naw. Just have had a project that was 99 percent done sitting in the closet and thought since I am stuck home with nothing to do I would screw a 60 dollar barrel on it and keep busy that way.

But thanks for assuming and coming here to be an ass hole.

I’ve sold a few things I never though I’d part with to stay afloat, honestly I underestimated the outbreak and now it it’s going away.
Gun Geezer,
Your an azzwhole.
If it were my last penny, I'd spend it, trying to save my dog.
I'm so glad my job is essential, so I wont lose my job, but it sure has slowed down.
Hopefully, we all make it through this.

Good luck all.
Think we might be OK.
Laid off for a min of next 2 weeks.
But ripple effect may make for longer.
Think enough seniority to have a job whenever things get to normal.

Kinda screwed up paying off a bunch of stuff.
Figured the plan too good this yr.

Oh well.

Nothing I can do about it, so aint gonna let it give me a heart attack.

Poor planning here, no fun projects

Anyone that’s suffering through this has my prayers. Our biz was just shut down tonight by proclamation of the governor.

I’ve got 7 mouths to feed under our roof. But we will be fine albeit poorer when we come outa this thing

Some of our 50 employees are still living paycheck to paycheck. Btdt Lots of folks in the same boat. They are the ones that are apt to truly suffer.

Being rich is having a roof over a warm house with food to eat.

Remove those things & you are poor.

All else is fluff

God bless & keep the folks that may truly see tough times, including the OP

If you can fix it with money it is not a real problem...

OP, I feel for you.

However, this may seem insensitive, but I grew up on a farm where my opinions were formed. Dogs and cats were loved, but they were also viewed as tools. Cats helped keep mice out of buildings, dogs guarded the house and/or herded livestock. They seldom ever saw a vet. A lot of problems could have been avoided if spay/neutering had been practiced.

Whether they lived or died was usually an economic question, there were always more cats or dogs to replace them. We moved on. Spending hundreds or thousands preserving a cat or dogs life was out of question.

It is just the way i grew up.

I feel the same way. Growing up on a farm, and living on one all my life, dogs and cats never got a lot of attention. We would take a dog to the vet for a rabies shot, and that was about it. Cats were too plentiful to worry about taking one to the vet.

I have a dog and a cat here on the place. Took both to the vet to be neutered, and had the vet give the dog a rabies shot when he was here looking at a horse. That's been it, and when they die, I'll do just like I've always done.........take the tractor and dig a hole, then put them in it, and get another one to take their place.

I will always remember the first advice my father gave me when I started driving......he said to never swerve to avoid hitting an animal, because he had a friend who did to avoid hitting a dog, and he ran off the road and was killed. He went on to say that an animals life is not worth that of a human, and it's always stuck with me. I've had a lot of pets, and have some that I would have fought someone over, but I always kept in mind that they were an animal, and not on the same level as a human...............even if some of them did think they were.

However, I'll not judge how someone else feels about their pets, as that's their business.

Sorry about you losing your dog, despite doing all that you could to keep him going. It works out like that sometimes. In the end He gets them all back, in His time...

I hope your family can weather this storm out alright, and if any of my tax money had to go help people out, I would not begrudge it being used to carry you guys through this, if it comes about. (the $1200 checks that they are supposed to be sending, I mean)
Good luck.
Don't forget to pay back that 401 loan, otherwise taxes and 10% penalty (unless they forgive that, which I heard is being floated around DC right now)

+1

I love my dog. He's the best security guard / alarm system any money could buy. But when it's his time, he'll go in a hole out back near all the rest of them.
Posted By: mjbgalt Re: Well it happened to me - 03/21/20
Honestly feel bad that some of you guys have never had a dog that got in your heart...almost feels as important as a kid to you. Its a Pretty awesome bond and it doesn't happen often.

One of them warned me about my house fire. Can't replace that one with just any animal.

Anyway, prayers to those who are out of work because of this and hopes that we all bounce back fast.
Posted By: 19352012 Re: Well it happened to me - 03/21/20
I've had several dogs that got into my heart. But it's still a dog when you get right down to it. Ain't worth no $2500 when a replacement is $50 at the pound.

Yep
Posted By: Slope77 Re: Well it happened to me - 03/22/20
When my kids were little, I taught them this prayer:

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for our safe house
And our warm beds
And the food in our tummies
And everyone who loves us

Amen

I think that covers most of the important stuff.

Last house dog came to the end of it's life when I was unemployed. The bullet to put it out of it's misery was less than 10 cents.

I'm laid off for 2 weeks[min], wife is as well as we work together.
Yet here I am alone at work doing what has to be done.
We did the official layoff deal just to be certain we can get whatever is offered on the back end to small biz.
Have 2.5 employees out of 9 on the payroll right now.
Now I'm just waiting to see if the pre-schoolers in D.C. will come together on anything.

Strangely one of my biggest personal concerns over the past week has been whether or not dog food would become an issue going forward.
Posted By: utah708 Re: Well it happened to me - 03/23/20
Really sorry that you are dealing with so much at once. I don't know if you have any handguns you could sell right now, but the market is irrationally hot for them right now. I sold three guns over the weekend locally--not gouging prices but fair market prices. 9mm semi autos are particularly in short supply.
I'm sitting in my office with the lights off. No employees. Finished up the few jobs that I could. Ran out of suppliers to call to get the stuff I need to do the other jobs I had lined up.
My youngest son started his own business almost three years ago and he bought his first home last fall. He too has been shut down. He is distraught
My oldest son and his wife were both laid off last week. She's five months pregnant. They don't know what they are going to do.
My daughter is a teacher. She is still getting paid and my SIL is a officer in the Navy so at least they are doing okay.

and people wonder why I have a attitude???

Then this crap blew up. All these things lined up to put him in a sling.

Fortunately for me, I am far removed from effects of what's going so I am just starting to get a handle on how large these issues are for some people. Unfortunate for sure. And you raging a$sholes are so angry, that you have to strike out at someone who is down. WTF?
