I am back on the road after 37 years, bought my Kawasaki on November 3rd and turned 5,700 miles yesterday after a short, solo 167 mile ride. What do you own and are your riding?
Good for you Dave, shiny side up.....
I kinda retired riding by accident. Sold the last bike several years ago right before Labor Day weekend, with the intent of getting a new one the following spring. Next year, I started shooting a lot more 1K BR matches, and before you knew it, half the summer was gone. So the next year was the plan, then the next, till finally said the hell with it, it just ain't safe out there anymore. It was a good run.....
Always rode Harleys. Went straight from a Honda XL-250 to a Sportster, and all big twins after that. Best summer was 16,000 miles.
My favorite.....Fatboy with all black paint, S&S top end & gear drive cams, fixt up straight off the dealer's floor....
'14 HD Ultra Classic - pumped up a bit with Rinehart headers, pipes, bigger intake and HD's race tuner.. The other's an '18 HD Street Glide - basically stock..
Man you guys got me jonesing for another bike. After I had a 12 vertebrae fusion done wife and kids said no more Harleys. I'm still thinking maybe sex and cooking would be a small trade for another chopper! 😉
Took my MSC through the local HD shop and the week after I was legal went in and test rode a bunch of bikes up to the Road Glide, like them all but the 'Glide was an eye opener after several months of riding a 362 lb Ninja 400 around the county.
I will likely end up on a 2020 Ninja 1000SX, a faired sport touring bike but not full on touring bike like the 'Glide or Gold Wing and pick up a Sportster 1200 for local play.
The gearhead in me wants the new 130ci in a Sportster package
That is a Cherokee in the background, a narrow track rather than a Chief. I need to finish the project since I miss driving it. I need to build the exhaust, run brake and fuel lines and swap the body over to the new chassis sitting in the garage with a 5.3/4L60/NP241 ready to go.
... Of course Id have to get myself a dirt bike as well 😉
Found a pretty decent ‘77 yz400 for cheap.
I regularly get the urge to relive the dirt bike escapades of my yout'. However, I don't live on a farm anymore, nor do I have the cartilage I once did. I figure if I could find a way to rent one for a couple hours, it would quickly cure me of my desire to get back into it.
But please post pics & videos of that yz400. Living vicariously is much easier on my back.
The 86 Gold Wing 1200 that nearly took my left foot off when I blew out a rear tire at 65 MPH back in 2014 is getting repurposed as a Can-Am Spyder style 3-wheeler for the day when I get too old and feeble for a 2-wheeler. I'm adapting the front suspension and steering system off a Polaris ATV to the Honda frame. It looks like the project is going to cost around $2500.00, not $25K for a Can-Am! After building dirt track race cars from a pile of steel tubing and a welder for 40-something years, that project ought to be a piece of cake! Jerry
2004 Yamaha FZ1 - About 130 hp at the back wheel. 1-60 in under 3 seconds.. or as some say, 0 to ticket in under 3 seconds. Haven't had it out yet this year, been kinda crappy weather here in PA. Makes me want to go to work just for the ride to and from.
2004 Yamaha FZ1 - About 130 hp at the back wheel. ]
My purple Duece above made 93 horse, 103 for torque.
The Fatboy with the flames made 96 horse, 106 torque.
The black Fatboy I never dynoed, but it had another 1/2 point compression, S&S heads were ported/polished, and went to 585 cams over the 570's of the flamed bike.
Probably easily 110 hp & 120 torque.
Best part is I did all the work myself at home in my breezeway, except the head work and pressing the cams out & in.
Mom almost died twice on an BMW R59 or R60, Dad died on his Gold Wing when I was 13.
Too many folks getting cancer, two coworkers and four family members (not blood related) in the last two years so I said fk'it, I am going die so I am going to ride.
My '78 Beemer with 45k miles, 3rd owner, near mint condition. Runs like new. I am considering selling. PM me if interested.
Gorgeous and low miles too. R100? (Fuel line in the way)
You know they use those flat twins to run irrigation pumps in third world countries cause they just go and go... Who was the guy that BMW bought the bike back from 350k or 450k on it. Let him have whatever new bike he wanted and put his in the factory museum...

YES SIR !
I had a friend who DIED in his RECLINER....Absolute truth.
I've had dirt bikes since 1987 and street bikes since 2002.
This Suzuki 1200 Bandit has been massaged thoroughly. OEM it was 90 or 95 hp. Professionally done by a Suzuki Xpert. Now it has 125 HP on dyno. I've seen 140 MPH
My riding pard and I put 547 miles on in ONE day, 2011.
By 2017 my L knee won't let me ride it very long. It's NOT a crotch rocket, just a standard sport bike but pegs are too high and back for long distance now.
2107...... BINGO, just stumbled onto this one. A mutual friend knew its owner. I normally ride with a helmet but....
It's 98 Ultra Glide Ultra Classic 1340 cc ( 82 C I ) My first bike with Luggage aka Garbage Bags lol. It IS nice to carry bad wx gear, snacks, drinks (insulated bag) etc.
I've already worn out a H D (Dunlop) rear tire. Replaced with Michelin Commander II.
Oh heck yes, motorcycles are the "ultimate" in so many ways. Weather it be social distancing, therapy, fun, bonding with your kiddos, spouse, friends etc... Motorcycles, no matter street or dirt, are simply good for the soul. Can't imagine a life without. I think the words printed on the image below sums it up succinctly for this dirt biker.
A few from over the last few years with my kids, friends and spouse.
As someone who works in the medical device industry (product development for Trauma implants) I thank you for the business.
Please don't get me wrong, I love motorcycles - rode them off and on for 20 years before I started working in this industry. 3 of the first 5 IM nail cases I saw (rod in a leg) in a Level 1 trauma center were motorcycle related. Never got on one since...
Gave up wrenching and stuffing money into them, as it just wasn't cost effective any more.
Finally had to give into the fuel injection craze, as they quit putting carbs on them.....
I'm really liking that Bagger aalf, Nice!!
I have an 03' BMW K1200LT that I put a few miles on every year. Don't know if I'll even be able to ride it this year, tore my left rotator cuff and if this shiet don't get settled down who knows when I'll get it fixed.
Didnt this topic get you booted off the last forum?
Want me to tell everybody why they canned you? Jerry
For drunkingly threatening a wannabe commando? Sure. Besides the fact that that was 7 years ago, sheesh, you and those guys dont forget anything like a scorned woman.

I was wanting to purchase the little BMW adventure bike. 310GS Sitting on the cash. But being laid off now, not gonna.
Do the KTM 390 Duke. The 310 looks impressive but it looks under powered. $4666 for the Duke plus tax license and destination charges. I need a new pickup or I'd have the Duke.
I ride a Suzuki V-Strom, a Klr 650, a naked 1981 Gold Wing, and a xr400 Honda. My Dad rode, my son rides, my grandsons and granddaughter ride. My wife still rides a Yamaha 200 trail bike but only rides pillion on the road anymore. GD
The best move I made 37 years ago was getting off a motorcycle, I was the typical squid and likely would have crashed and died in months from stupidity. Getting back on a motorcycle is probably the best decision I have made in decades. The experience cannot be understood by those who have never ridden motorcycles and I intend to ride until no longer physically capable even if this requires a transition to different bikes to address age and related difficulties.
This is the '14 1000 ABS I rode recently, nice bike but rode hard and put up wet.
This is a '20 1000SX that I intend to be riding by November. My 400 has limited features, mainly ABS but it's also FI and the only way I will fly now. The 1000SX has some nice upgrades over the 1000 ABS. My interest in order of priority are Cruise, Adjustable Windscreen, (Computer Controls >>> Integrated Riding Modes, Traction Control, Intelligent anti-lock Brake System, Corner Management Function), Hard Bags, Quick Shifter and last, Power.

G kids LOVE it.
Waiting on rain to STOP !
Sweet bike - congrats... Comfy beggars, ain't they? A rider can put a lot of miles on in a day and not have to have a bud pry yer azz outta the seat... My personal best is 933 miles in one day - and I think I could have gone another hundred if I had needed to..
this past year. I loved the FJR and have taken it on forest service roads. However, it was a fight every time. The V-strom handles the highway and the forest service great. Next on the list is either an Africa Twin or a Super Tenere.

G D - I had to RE read this post. I first thot you were my riding pard, no but similar bikes.
That pic is from 9/2018. He & his Vstrom. My Harley is barely seen on R. He also has a KLR 650 and XR 250.
Hindsight....... wish I had kept up with the miles we have put on together, several Ks.

TOO comfy, seriously. Last Summer on a Hot day my pard and I rode and got on a S T R A I G H T stretch of hwy. I literally NEARLY went to sleep riding. ! ... it made a great IMPACT on my mind. No joke.
Both of those are good looking bikes. I'd BET that Vstrom is lighter than the FJR. My pard bought his Vstrom new and has 65 K + miles on it. He and his bike are below your pix.
I have triumphs at the moment a bonnivlle America ...to date my favorite bike ever.. Also have a Tiger...rode that thing 60K in about 6 years. Great platform to see the country...
Well. that was last fall, waiting for the snow to melt to get back after it this year but I'll be there. Think I'll get a liter bike too. The BMW (600) has been around for years and always limiting off road due to it's weight. Going smaller, liter. 85% of my miles are off road...
My '78 Beemer with 45k miles, 3rd owner, near mint condition. Runs like new. I am considering selling. PM me if interested.

Never heard that but awesome gesture from BMW. Also the fuel line are not in the way whatsoever. Everything is well placed and well balanced. I just adjusted the valves, rebuilt and synced carbs, checked timing, changed all fluids and replaced upper and lower steering head bearings. Back tire has 5000 miles on her so will need replacement in a few thousand miles but other than that she’s raring to go. 10/4 on the R100

My first try a pics through the imgur site. The beast,... worse than a bad marriage!!
Nice ride....
Where's the girls with the assless chaps supposed to sit?
Aren't all chaps assless? The tiny woman I ride with is 66, and wears bike shorts under her chaps. Incredible, for any age, let alone 66. Nice view. She's 5'2" and 110. Her High School weight. She's really gotten into the Harley riding attire. Not so much for me. I use good stuff. If it says Harley on it, that's ok. Riding since 1972.
Lloyds Cam,30 thousands over bore,11.5 pistons,106 Stroker kit.Limiter adjusted to 6,800RPM-120 HP over 125 Ft Lbs of Torque.Eats Harleys and s hits Indians.
I've decided to park the dirt bikes though The Protege vid got me Jonesin' for a ride. It's too crowded here to risk ending up in a hospital right now. Maybe in a couple weeks.
I ride a 2018 Suzuki VStrom 1000 adventure bike. Its currently out of commission because yesterday I removed the seat then drove over to Terrys Custom seats to have it reworked and recovered. He does amazing work but is really booked up. I had a deposit with him for 6 months. Seat should be finished next week. Am hoping to find a used small 250 or so dual sport to play around with in the near future

You should probably get your timeline straight if you're going to hate somebody for an action over 7 years ago. Here goes. 1. I let him know I know his personal info and the info of everyone in his household. Never directly threatened him and sure dont know where you got the idea that I threatened his kid. 2. Got booted off. 3. Came back 4. Booted off. 5. Came back. 6. Booted off.
So, the bannings came after the original act, which makes more sense than your scenario above. The cool thing is that your band of buddies isnt here in a PC crowd to help you talk schit like these guys here have witnessed of you.

Nuttin like a 2 wheeler.
EVERYBODY ride alert.
Jerry
jwall, thanks. Yep, it is significantly lighter, even though it is not considered light. Ride alert indeed. Beware the cagers and ride like you are invisible and everybody is out to get you.
I started riding a friend's Harley 165 in 1958. 62 years later I'm still at it. Now a lot of my rides are with the Patriot Guard Riders, making a final tribute to one of my fellow veterans with a flag line and a funeral escort. Jerry

Sincerely.... I appreciate your service. I get shivers when I see the Patriot Guard Riders...... I like it BUT Don't like the WHY, if ya get my drift.
160 hp of pure haul ass on a comfortable bike that can pull light off road duties.
That’s a sweet ride, got to luv them Ducs’. Is that a multistrata 1260? When the weather breaks I’ll try and take a few pics of the Monster 1200r.

Its a 2014 1200 with full termi exhaust (no cat) and dyno tuned. 139 hp to the ground, should be just under 160 at the crank. I bet on the little Monster R its amazing.
I plan to do some riding and camping in TN soon. Never ridden up there. Lots of motorcycle maps floating around of course. Any recommended routes? Shoot me a PM.
My ride is now a 2000 Kawasaki W650, basically an improved early Bonneville. In June I rode it down the coast to Venice from Gig Harbor, Washington.
Beautiful ride! Love the nostalgic look.
One of the great joys of modern retro style bikes, is that they are very reliable. You get the feel and look of an antique, with the turn it on and go riding, of a modern machine. This is one of the things I like about the lowrider. I'm 65, and pretty much done with going 150 and risking life and limb at every corner. I can putt around, feel the thing at low speeds, and I don't have to wrench on it for 4 hours, to get a one hour ride. Awesome stuff. Seems to me they've been making that 650 for many years. I remember it as a Japan only bike, in the 70's.
I practiced "Social Distancing" today. I took ol Harley on a 1 day ride.
I cranked him up and took off > Worry Free Had to eat 'outside' as ALL restaurants have Drive Thru only.
I went thru many small towns and gas stations were open everywhere. The cheapest price I saw was $1.49/9 NEXT to I 30. Surprised me, where it was. We set a Record Hi temp for March 26 in Ark of 87* I was pretty warm when I got back.
.... an old Fat Kat that I rebuilt several years ago..
I've never ridden one of those but always wanted to try one.
I rode a TW200 for a couple of years and it was kinda nice to throw a rifle and caller on, take back roads to several spots, ride in, call coyotes, then move on to the next spot. It was pretty weak but was workable on rough trails mountainside trails, actually worked really well but I wasn't ripping.....finally got fed up with how poor it was on roads. Maybe fast bikes will get you killed but that SOB TW200 was so slow I had to be real careful about which routes I took to avoid getting run over from behind.
Suzuki makes a fat wheeled motorcycle similar to the TW200. If those bikes had a 450 in them I would like to have one at the farm but a 200 will only get you run over on anything other than a dirt road.
Thanks Redneck. The N W 2/3 of the State has some of the prettiest country to be found. The EAST side from the Miss. River is basically FLAT farm land.
The Southern part of the State is 'mostly' DEER country. It's mixed private and timber co. land. We have MANY State Parks and Lakes.
There is PLENTY of Scenic riding to be had. There are Motorcycle Riding maps of the State.
... Of course Id have to get myself a dirt bike as well 😉

The old YZ apparently sold this week. Thankfully.
I have however convinced myself I now need a new(er) yz250x. Hah!
