I live way out in the wilderness in the North Carolina mountains. Madison County NC, zero Corona cases so far. One of the safest places to be in these days.

I was driving up onto the top of the mountain today, with my girlfriend. There are 4 other houses on this mountain, a long ridge actually 550 feet above the French Broad River, the closest is 1/2 mile away. We were looking for out crazy Beagle, she has spring fever and has been running far off the past week.
And there in the neighbor's yard 1/2 mile away, I saw Lee Ann in the yard. Honestly I thought it was a ghost, hadn't seen her in 2 years they never come down here. She is a poetry professor at St. John's College in New York. Or New Jersey or some damn where. She and her husband Tony live in a brown stone in Manhattan.

We got out of the car, she was waving at me hysterically, as to say "KEEP AWAY." I got out I was about 15 feet away, she was backing away. I realized she was terrorized by the Corona. After all, New York is the epicenter of the problem.

She said she and Tony drove down on Friday. She said that today was the first day she had been outside. I realized, she was terrified of the Corona and for good reason.
We currently have no cases of the Corona here in Madison County.

We talked for a minute you could tell she wanted nothing to do with another person, even at 15 feet away on a sunny day.

Just 3 days ago the Florida governor shut down I 95 to all cars from New York. Lee Ann and Tony figured, North Carolina was likely to do the same thing any day, they had to Escape From New York while the getting was good.

Refugees from the Corona piling up in the North Carolina wilderness.

Shirley and I talked about it, we realized that we have a lot more to fear from New Yorkers than they have to fear from us. Normally Tony and Lee Ann have great parties, good booze and good food. If they threw a party tomorrow we would not be able to make it I'm afraid.

Where I deliver in Sevier County (home of Dollywood, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg) all of the rental cabins on my route are FULL of people with NY and north of the Mason DIxon line license plates. They started coming in on about Tuesday and showed no signs of slowing down. Of course they are ordering Amazon, going to the local grocery stores and LOADING up with stuff. Looks like they are here to stay for a while.

I have read alot of stories of people running south and going about their routing as if nothing was going on.
Unfortunately it gives all NY'ers ( North Easterners) a bad rap.

Thousands upon thousands of Tonys and Lee Anns coming to Florida.. And an unknown quantity of them with the Coronavirus.

Do you think she was pushing you back to protect you?

Food for thought.

Exactly why it's going to keep spreading. Wonder how many places they stopped between NYC and NC and possibly left their mark if they're infected?

I haven't been inside a gas station in the last 2 weeks.

But yesterday afternoon I stopped by my favorite place to buy beer.

Hole in the wall locally owned 'Indian' casino that also sells soda pop, hot case with fried food to go, uber frozen pork chops, beef steaks, etc...

The casino is shut down and the place is now only open on the weekends. Super quiet, the two cashiers(both nice native woman) and I were the people....

Spent $199.80 on beef and beer.

$20 on pork chops.

Had to make two trips out to the pickup...
(get out real quick with the second trip, don't leave chit outside in the bed of a pickup)

Yep. And you can bet your ass they'll be going out to gas up, buy tofu, organic hummus, organic vegetables and fresh fish, and that special French vodka.

How many stops is that until they get that exact stock-up mix they want?

Yeah..

My point exactly. Breaking every rule in the book.

So amazing. Didn't somebody say Shelter in Place?

You can be carrying the virus for days or weeks without knowing it. Even though a million-and-a-half tests have been completed so far, there still isn't any large-scale testing going on.

Sorry. But my opinion of Tony and Lee Ann is that they are NYC aszholes.

Exactly. I’d get the fück out too. I’d be conscientious and safe and self quarantine on the other end, but I’d get the fück out.

Which reminds me... At the nightly briefing, one of the idiot reporters asked Trump, “Do you want your children–your family, who’s in NY, to wear masks?” Trump said, “I’d imagine they’re wearing them.”

I’m thinking to myself, yea, there’s no way they’re in NY, NY.

Lot's of NY Lic. plates showing up in my neck of the woods down here in Florida. Are numbers are rising rapidly. Probably gonna be one of the next hot spots soon. As stated in the first post she's down to her property there because she is terrified of how bad CV19 is NY. I'm not defending her or anything about her just stating she was probably more worried about giving it at that point that getting it and the odds would hugely be in that favor.

I'm from Warren County, upstate NY.

Some of you fellows have heard of my representative - Elise Stefanik.

To date our county has tested 509 cases, with 25 positive.

Numbers here;

The darker colors roughly correspond to the more liberal parts of NY.

You’re not even from NY then. Adirondacks is where I always tell people when I relocate just to avoid the idiot comments about NYC. Technically, I grew up in the Berkshires and spent summers on a farm in the Catskills but family still has a place in Schroon and wife went to Plattsburgh. Her Mom moved back up somewhere near Daggett a year or two ago though I’ve not been that far north in a few decades.

Shelter in Place does not apply to the NYC, they are special. I would have reported those 2 morons to the cops and I have never reported anyone to the cops ever. This would be a situation where I would other then witnessing a crime.

And you Florida guys are just seeing the NY yellow licence plates on the NYC cars that drove in. Orlando International was letting in 190 New York flights a day to say nothing about all the infected cruise ships docking there. Governor DeSantis put profits ahead of protection for way too long and people there were not isolating nearly enough. Lots of at risk, compromised older people there who interacted and traveled a lot. 1,450 miles in the rear view mirror for this older couple was a terrific decision.

NY’ers love in a artificial reality.

There are 12,350 cases in Fl. There have been 221 deaths and 1,555 are currently hospitalized.

I think it is being handled well down there. They have 1/3 the population of Italy for a perspective.

Now compare their figures with NY19.4 million and NJ almost 9 million and tell me who is doing a better job.

Please leave Florida

It''s Just too bad that a few months ago the bricklayers union could not have put cinder block walls on the NJ side of that chitthole and closed up the GW, Tappan Zee, Holland and Lincoln Tunnels and Verrazano narrows bridge in Staten Island.
They have been closing the Hotels in NW MT, they should have extended it to VRBO also. But I think it's too late, there are lots of folks renting VRBO's for months from what I hear. We have a 2 week quarantine for folks coming into the state. There just isn't the resources here to deal with a big outbreak. We have 25 cases in the county, almost all from folks taking vacations when they should not have. Hopefully we will get this under control soon.

Thanks for the reply - and that seems quite revealing. While you are far removed from the situation you are willing assume that you can read her mind and then assume that she is more concerned about harming another person than protecting herself - when she has chosen to not remain in place as broadly recommended/requested and has driven long distance almost non-stop to that mountain top from NYC to escape infection and be safer? That seems like some mind-reading driven by a wish.

I am sorry that he (and you all) are experiencing that and certainly hope that he is one of those who does not experience any significant symptoms as it runs its course - and that the ensuing immunity will enable him to work and live as he wishes.

We have 25 cases in the county, almost all from folks taking vacations when they should not have. Hopefully we will get this under control soon.

Yup.

[bleep] coming out to "shelter in place" and infect everyone else instead of staying home in their own [bleep]. From what I've read on FB most of the VRBO folks are taking it upon themselves to close or only offer to locals who need a place to stay. After public pressure I might add.

Only good thing about the lockdown is the closed park and reduced traffic. Maybe tourist numbers will be down all summer.
