It doesn't sound like the kind of problem a 16 pound sledge won't fix.

Let the air out of the tires on that side.

Straight from the Tennessee handbook.

There is a bar across the middle that you should pull up on and out like another camper I own but they don't budge
Does it have tabs catching on the door frame? I’ve seen some like that

Barricade or PB2 anti-rust/lube on every pivot joint. Soak. Repeat, soak. Repeat.........

You'll be back in business in a few days.

Had the same thing on an old camper. They just get seized up due to the grime, rust, etc.
Doubt it’s lube problem in a 2012

Look it over good and make sure there is not some kind of locking mechanism on it, could be as simple as a sliding rod. If there is no locking mechanism then their just froze up, give 'em a good pull........Maybe you should have the wife do it. grin

OP's location is "in the mountains" and unlike your 8,500 posts, I assume he actually HUNTS and chit with his 75 posts laugh

So yea, road dirt, mag chloride, salt, gravel, off-road grime............

I had the same problem with my pull-behind after just 3 years of Colorado back-country.

Holy CHIT!!! I hope you were trying to get out instead of going in. That is no fun. I don't care where you are.
Posted By: Stickfight Re: Rv steps won't unfold - 04/24/20
WD40 is schidt for lube, or as a penetrating oil.

I once had the lift for my motorcycle freeze up on the back of my "RV", but application of Kroil (Aerokroil actually) fixed that problem.

Never had the steps freeze that I have noticed. Probably my wife or the kids would have mentioned it.

Mine was a 2014 (new) to 2017 (when I sold it).

My manual fold out step was frozen in place, no sledgehammer could have freed it.

When I finally broke it free with PB2, about a pound of sand and gravel and chit poured out of a bunch of nooks and crannies and channels.

So, it was just a helpful thought.

My 31 class C now is electric and obviously travels on different terrain, so doubt I'd have that problem now.

I was going in but backing out didn’t seem like the right call at the time but it might have been.

The winch pulled it right out, was only stuck for 5 minutes and had a gobbler roosted before it was dark.

+1. Kroil > PB2

PB2 will be cheaper and easier to find but Kroil is the daddy of all anti-seize.

Sliding door?

On an RV??

If the manually operated folding step simply will not budge after some of the solvent/lube treatments recommended here, simply unbolt it from the underside of the rig, hit the joints hard with a good power washer, and then soak those joints with kroil - it will loosen then - so follow with final cleaning and keep it greased at the joints thereafter.

Thats similar to what a gunsmithing instructor told us.

"Don't force it. Get a bigger hammer!" smile

As a "worker bee", I've never been in the position to know about "bigger high end units". wink

I lived one summer in a 1977, 17' Ford C class home. That was in 2009 or so............No slider in that unit. grin

Even the newer ones, up to 1998 models, didn't have them. But at least the newer ones had operating A/C and steps. laugh
