Just got an email from Ruger announcing this. Similar to their SBL but with Skinner front and rear sights, no picatinny rail, 16.1" threaded barrel.

Marlin 1895 Trapper

OUCH WITH PLENTY RECOIL
Ugly damn thing. If Ruger ever figures out how to make a lever gun of blued steel and walnut and that not everybody needs a gun for grizzly protection maybe I'd try one.
I have a stainless Guide Gun in 45-70 I like a lot. I bought it years ago when I had a place to hunt bear in the thick swampy Eastern section of NC. Beartooth Bullets sells a 425 hard cast bullet designed to be the heaviest bullet practical for the Marlin guns. With a max load of IIRC H322 it made shooting my 3 1/2 turkey gun seem mild.

The guy that got me interested in casting bullets for a 45-70 did his target shooting into a sandy bank. He dug out most bullets and recast them. I have a 350 grain cast load using Red Dot that equals a mid level .45 Colt load. 3 shot groups under an inch at 100 yards are common.

I miss the days of 3 cent primers, but if you have a stash of LRPs handy you can have a bunch of fun with one of these.
That looks pretty decent.
I'm really liking it
I do hope they make one in 357 and 44 mag, or the Model 336 or which ever model it was ,I think that would be sweet.... Joe
This will flatten current 1895 prices.

Still laughing at the guys who paid 3k 😂
Helluva house gun with 405 Rem's

Marlin 1895 Trapper

Got mine last week. My wife said, “That is a beautiful gun. Will I be able to shoot it?” I said, “Sure, but i don’t think you’ll like it.”
Same big bore pack gun design that’s been marketed for 20+ years. Unfortunately Ruger/Marlin have no interest in what I deem the best/versatile chamber, the 444 Marlin. Bullets in HP, SP, Mono and HCGC from 210 gr - 335 gr, from light game to the heaviest with bullet/powder combinations that give speeds of 2,150 fps with heavies and 2,650 with lights.

Like to see a 20” barrel with full length magazine and 1-20” twist. The 45-70 is great, and sells, but to me less versatile and only a bit more powerful. Still what animal is going to shed 300 gr or 335 gr loads out of a 444 Marlin at 2,250 fps and 2,150 fps at 150 yards, none. On light game using the 210 gr Speer, 225 Barnes or 240 XTP, it’s pretty much a bang flop with massive energy dump from such rapid expansions at 444 Marlin speeds. How about it Ruger, give us a do-it-all tube feed lever gun again. Only one man’s opinion.
I've had mine little over a month now and had it out a couple times with my Hybrid 46 screwed on. Have shot mostly subsonics, trying to work up a "quiet" deer load, although I did run a few Remington 405gr JSP factory loads through it. Very neat package, quick handling and sights are great! Very comfortable to shoot with subsoncs, I have not tried any higher horsepower loads through it (I have other 45-70s for that) because I mainly bought it as a suppressor host. I think Ruger/Marlin is off to a great start and look forward to what they come up with next, I'd love to see a 336 Trapper in .35 Rem!
So far their previews of coming attractions pictures have been what they actually bring out, so when they finally do produce a 336 it'll probably look like this:

Or not... wink
I hope they bring back the .444 or .450 Marlin
Pretty sure they will but the question is when. Best evidence for that is their new manuals. On the Marlin website at the bottom of the specs page for the 1895 they have a link to the new manual. In that manual at the top of page 19 is the sentence:

'Ammunition Notes and Warnings:
NOTE: If your rifle is chambered for 444 Marlin, .45-70 Gov’t. or 450 Marlin,
please carefully review the following warning and dimensions."

Under the two models they haven't introduced yet, the 336 and 1894, the instruction manual link has an asterisk warning: "* Ruger was not involved in the creation of these manuals and cannot verify the accuracy of the information provided in them. We offer these manuals only as a courtesy to pre-Ruger Marlin firearms owners."

So by deduction if the new Ruger-Marlin manual lists the .444 and .450, that's a pretty good bet they'll eventually offer those.
My customized Marlin 45-70 is a constant companion for my Alaskan activities. Nice wood and the 21" octagon barrel and receiver has good bluing. To me its a beautiful rifle. But, that stainless synthetic Trapper is appealing to me.

I would want mine Mag Na Ported to get rid of some of the muzzle jump. Stuffed with some of my hoarded heavy jacketed bonded 350 grain Kodiak Bullets I would be much better armed then with any handgun.

Rigged with a 2 point AR sling, fast to get into action.

At 72 I doubt I need another 45-70, but I want that Trapper!
You can put the above Ruger Marlin "Trapper" in the "Crapper"! Disrespect intended. OK, true that just my opinion for sure. But to me the "lever genre" is best expressed in 'classic'. I'm good for the Marlins in 336 through 1980, with earlier the better!
Below pix from 1972 which was either first year or 'nearly so' I believe as intro of 45/70. My one of two here in B sn prefix. Here B0011xx sn. Just the KISS Principle, of keeping it simple. Not suggesting necessarily this simple but 'works for me'!

Best!
John

I’ve got a 1972 Marlin 45-70. I like it, but not nearly as much as I do my Pedersoli 1886 Hunter-lite. The 1886 is smoother, stronger, and the stock design handles recoil a lot better. But the Marlin is nice.
Looks nice, but zero interest in a 45/70. A stainless compact like that in 357 or 44 Mag may loosen my wallet, if they ever offer either chambering.
Have many Marlins, but would be interested in how the 1895 Guide Stainless turns out.

Exactly, come on man, give us non buffalo hunters something to shoot...Joe

I had an 1895CB in 45-70 for a while, and it was one of the least pleasant rifles to shoot I've ever owned.

357 Maximum would be absolutely perfect imho, but since I don't ever see that one ever happening a stainless Trapper in 357 Mag would be good enough for me.
I am a fan of the Marlin levers. But the "old" Guide Gun was heavy on recoil. The ported barrel version were miserable loud.
No interest in a 16" barrel or threaded for suppressor.
No need for full length mag tube either. That being said they will sell a bunch of them.
The had a great thing going with the original 1895 and1894. I think there is a market for the 1895 XLR versions. Their 338 ME was a great caliber.
I'm also curious to see if they'll eventually bring back the ME cartridges too. I'd imagine it depends on how sales of the more standard chamberings go.
Got the phone call today, my name was top of the list. Going to pick it up tomorrow.

I understand and certainly appreciate the panache of the older Marlins, but I am not going to afraid to use this one at all. Son traded me me out of the Remlin guide gun. Not talking me out of this one!

I am simply bolt action trash, but this big bore lever has me excited.

I had a beautiful Marlin in 444, actually too beautiful. Think it is a great cartridge, but the 45-70 is certainly practical.
Had my Trapper up to deer camp a couple weeks ago. Didn't get a chance to draw blood with it but pulled it out before the opener for the guys to check out. Ran 100 rounds of coated hard cast 405gr at a bit over 1000fps through it splitting firewood, woulda been more but that's all I had loaded. Everyone's reaction was similar, a huge grin with the "pop....WACK!" and chunks of ash flying. Recoil and noise with the Hybrid screwed on is negligible and just plain fun. Loaded to it's max I'm sure it wouldn't be as pleasant but, while it's nice to have the capability, for me that's not what it's meant for. I have other rifles for that.
Just picked it up.
Going to go out tomorrow and have some fun. Need to finish processing deer today. Then check and see if son left any ammo for me.

Initial impression, is very good. Looking forward to bruising the shoulder a little bit.

Cool. Waiting to hear how it shoots.

Run it hard enough, it will!

I found a 420-something LBT at 1650 fps to be about my limit for enjoyment. At 1800+, they just freakin' hurt and I couldn't tell the animal was 200 fps deader....

To each their own I guess. I too have a fondness for well grained walnut but I also like the contrast of SS and grey laminate. I have an original Guide Gun and an SBL both in .45-70. I like them both.
Unless you're a little guy, if you're getting "unpleasantness" and "bruising" with a Marlin, grip and stance needs improvement or you're loading too strong. Save your ~2000fps cartridges for polar bears.
I do not plan on loading this hot at all. This is going to be a fun gun.

I could be just as happy with a pistol cartridge, but I like the ergo's of the 1895. Comes up and fits me really good.

The 1894's not so much.
Finally got out to shoot my Trapper. Still waiting on some supplies, so ended up with factory 300gr solid copper tumbling ammo?

Shot 40 rounds and had no issues banging 12x12 plates at 50 and 100 yards. I like the rifle, did not chrono loads, but easy to shoot. Stopped by Lane Suppressors this afternoon and ordered a suppressor for it. Stated 7 months, so we will see.

Rest of my reloading supplies should be in next week, then time to get serious. grin
