What are you all using? I'm looking for good wicking, boxer brief to cover upper thighs, and odor control. Comfort and odor control are my most important features. I've bee wearing Sitka synthetic, can't recall the model, and they work well on odor control and general comfort. They do have some kind of iron-on Sitka label that sticks to my skin but it doesn't wear a hole in your skin.

ExOfficio
Under Armour nylon from the deployment days, and a few newer Huk pairs with the breathing panels.

The Huk have a rubberized logo on the outside that DOES stick to everything, but it's not too bad if you know to watch for it.

I have the first lite wool too. But not very durable

New Balance 3pk on Amazon for $17. 90% poly and 10% spandex. 6 inch legs. I've found them to be great for working outdoors in hot southern summertime. Wicks the moisture well.

How is the odor control after a few days?
Posted By: JPro Re: Delicate subject: underwear - 10/07/20
Can't speak to that. Just the comfort and moisture control. Perhaps someone else can be the guinea pig on the odor test.

Duofold, the old style wool/cotton blend tops and bottoms. I’ve yet to drink the synthetic fabric Kool Aid.
I have a couple sets of excellent synthetic long johns, very light, that came from Good Will. Yes, new -- they have lots of new stuff. For non-cold use, I use synthetic athletic-type underwear with a generous waist band. I have gotten good use from my Costco ones, but the clear champs are UnderArmour. I just can't believe how long their elastic waists last. I have had some for 10 years and have fluctuated in weight by over 30 lbs, yet it still fits right and stays right.

I am thick of thigh and prefer "long" short underwear. Cotton need not apply except for sleeping at home in the winter. Nor wool. Nor blends of same.
I'm fat and my legs rub. Hunting I wear compression shorts, like the ball players, with a lot of stretch. Works well enough for me. Some manscaping and baby wipes keep the odor tolerable.

I have yet to find a synthetic that doesn't smell after 2 days. I just wash mine at camp and switch out.
That has been my experience as well. The Sitka ones I have do as good as any I've ever seen but still about 2 days. Of course they quit making them....
I have been using Meriwool men's boxers the past 2 seasons with great results. So far they have held up and much better than synthetics for odor control.

No, really. ExOfficio. Buy a pair and live a little.
Duluth trading buck naked boxer briefs OR the Armachillo boxer briefs. They are not cheap so I watch for the sales but for the last 6 years been using them and have not wore a pair out yet and have not been chaffed or uncomfortable at all. Bottom line is they work very well.

I bought 2 of the Meriwool. $32 delivered to my door. This is what I was looking for. Thanks!

These are great. I've got some no-name synthetics I got off Sierra trading post a decade ago that I wish I would of bought every pair they had in large. They are my go-to's. Quick dry, no stink, no chafe. I wore one pair for 4 days in blm back country a few weeks ago. Still working well.
I freeball it.
Or when I don't, I am all about Haines Boxer Briefs from Wally World, just like normal.

Ex Officio is good until they lose their stretch.
I use the black REI synthetics. I'm not sure how it works, but the black color completely eliminates ugly skid marks, even after a week or two.

It's like magic.

I used to be a huge Ex Officio guy. But, they really did loose their stretch sooner than I would like. I just chalked it up as part of the cost for effective stuff. Then, many years ago, I stumble across Uniqlo Airism boxer briefs (link below). These are simply outstanding. They last longer than any I have tried. They have all of the features I want, effective scent control, easy wash, quick dry, moisture wicking, extremely lightweight, and, most importantly, more long lasting than any other expensive brand I have tried. When I was on active duty in the desert, these were life savers. At a minimum, I recommend you buy one pair to see that I speaketh the truth. I don't buy anything but these any more. The boxer briefs come in the shorter length and the longer lenght. I buy both.

I’ve had pretty good luck with the Black Ovis boxer briefs.

Hanes boxer/briefs and Fresh Balls.

Ok, I ordered a pair of the airism and a pair of the mesh. Which style of skinny jeans do you like best?

Wait'll you try them. You'll thank me. Skinny jeans? Not yet; however, I do admit to owning both a 6.5 Creedmoor and a 270.
For years I’ve been using Icebreaker merino wool underwear. I also use a light weight long Merino layer as well. The under wear are comfortable and odor control is good.
Sky - I'll check them out. Thank you!

I use the Duluth buck naked. Clean myself with either hand sanitizer soaked baby wipes or Lysol wipes. No idea if I am giving myself cancer with the Lysol wipes but they do a good job.
"good wicking, boxer brief to cover upper thighs, and odor control" that pretty much defines merino wool. I only use Merino wool undergarments any more on extended wilderness trips.
I like Ex Officio. The stretch waist band breathes and dries quicker than any other that I have tried. UA are OK but the waist band will stay damp from sweat much longer than the Ex Os. Merino takes forever to dry on your body if you sweat much.

mike r
for longer trips, my beloved Ibex lightweight merino boxers- my last pair and they are out of business frown

for shorter trips- Outdoor Research Echo boxers (these are also my daily choice as well)- microgrid syn really breathes well and they dry uber fast, they are holding up well too
You guys can laugh at me all you want, but the first lite Marino underroos are a game changer for me. They have the comfort of the under-armor type compression shorts, but they keep the stink down on the longer backpack style hunts.

I will note that the ball bag area in the older models were made of a mesh and have a tendency to wear out early. If you keep wearing them long enough, because they're so dam comfy, your wife will get tired of seeing your sack hanging out. I can confirm that it'll drive her to buy you a few new pairs for your birthday.

Same here,, I just wished they really made them in Duluth though!!
I've been wearing REI synthetics this week elk hunting. So far so good.
An update.

I ended up with 2 pr REI synthetics and 2 pr Meriwool boxer briefs. I wore the Meriwool 2 days in a row on 2 Smoky Mtn hikes. No odor despite sweating for most of 19.6 and 16.1 miles respectively. My only complaints with the Meriwool is they did seem to stretch a bit more than I like. Other than that, they are very comfortable and a solid choice.

I wore the REI for a couple day stints this year in elk season. No odor, didn't stretch, and another solid choice. I'd lean toward the REI due to the stretch factor.

I'm about to start whitetail hunting and will be wearing these 2 for multiple days in a row. I'll report back in December some time after I kill a few deer. grin

Not laughing here. Love my first lite aero wool boxers. Keeps the swamp a$$ away. Comfortable.

I Have no idea what the hell you are talking about? I have spent good portion of my adult life attempting (occasionally successfully) to remove underwear from the softer gender.... Didn't realize there were dudes that wear that chit.... and then wish to discuss it with other dudes on the World Wide Web.....! My how things have changed!

Absolutely agree!

First Lite Wick Long Boxer Brief for early season/warm weather. These are comfortable from 30-90 degrees.

First Lite Kiln Long Boxer Brief for cooler temps. These function well for me from -10 degrees (about as cold as I care to endure) up to 60 degrees.

No stink, no chafing and feel like silk.

First Lite has great merino boxer briefs; I have two pair and they’re wonderful. I wore one pair for a week on the AT during the summer a few years ago and they were fantastic!
Feel free to ignore the post...........

Apparently you've not done much backcountry hunting.

I wore one pair for 5 days, and while they were comfortable, I think that is about the limit of what I can tolerate as far as stink goes.

Pretty good option though. I'll probably grab a couple more pairs. The mesh ones can do double duty as a coffee filter!
I wore a single pair of the Meriwool boxer briefs for 4 days straight. Lots of hiking, no chafing, no objectionable odor.

Usually Ill change my Duluth armachillo boxers every day to prevent chafing/odor, similar distance and exertion.

I'm sold on the Meriwools!

Biggest thing is make sure they have a fly. After digging through an outer shell, pants, leggings and realizing your drawers don’t have a fly can make ya a little jumpy....🤣
Another Patagonia fan. I wear mine for over week in hot, dry desert conditions w/o any problems of odor, chaffing, etc. Never wet for long and always dry out quickly. Heck, I've hand washed the Tee Shirts, and put them on damp. Or I can leave them hang overnight. By morning, they are good to go. E
Duluth Armachillo - I prefer to them to Buck Naked/ExOfficio, New Balance, and Under Armour. Never tried any of them in wool but I could see them being good too

If you buy enough, they last about 4 years. I have replaced some as needed.
