Two thumbs way, way UP!

That is nice! Both elegant and tactical. Seems like a pefect carry gun.

I shoot my commander as well as my full size but rarely carry it because mine is all steel and 10 oz. heavier than your DW Guardian.

Let us know how it shoots.

Nice gat dawg.

I’ve been wanting one of those to go with my 9mm but gave up because they discontinued the Vigil. Great find!

Those have a fantastic reputation. Congrats. Very nice looking pistol.

Well you're gonna have a Happy Fourth of July - congrats nice looking 1911.

I have a Gov't Vigil and its easily the most accurate handgun I own. I 'd love a Commander size too.

Very nice!

That’s one helluva nice pistol, congrats !
Posted By: MOGC Re: New .45... - 07/02/22
Thanks gents. Haven't been to the range yet but I surely like what it is. The handgun is one of the best put together new factory guns I have seen in a while. All forged, no MIM, hand fitted in the US and set up pretty much exactly as I would have custom ordered it if that were a thing. If it shoots as good as it looks and feels I'll be tickled.

Dan Wesson puts a fine 1911 together. You should be proud of it, you have a nice one!

Nice. Hasbeen

Yeah, really, really nice.

I bet the only gripe you’ll have is the safety is stiff.

Either cut a couple of coils or order a lighter detent spring.
Posted By: Ky221 Re: New .45... - 07/03/22
You'll love it!

Love my CCO. Looks almost identical. It's a great shooter.

Come one now. The 1911 has been around for a long long time, but it's far from a hasbeen.

Likely a fluke, but Hickok45's had an issue with failure to lock back after the last round. He even sent it back for that, and it returned to him with the problem still there.

Ultimately, he bought a new Wilson Combat slide lock, and that fixed the issue.

PS His was the Dan Wesson Guardian, Commander sized.

I bought two of these in 9mm, one just out of the 500 round “break in” and the other never fired. I shot the used one and the safety was somewhat stiff but everything worked. I finally sold that one and started breaking in the new one. It wouldn’t lock back on last round and the safety was very stiff. I checked around and it’s a common problem, DW recommends working the safety several times but most people said to just order a new spring and detents or cut a couple of coils. I cut the spring and the safety worked fine while retaining positive clicks and the gun locks back now like it should.

Each part is intentionally fitted tight but they do have a reduced power spring as it’s a common problem. Why they don’t correct the problem from the start is beyond me.

This seems to be an issue with 9mm 1911s, here's a link to fix it. I have two 1911 9mms and both of them were a PITA to re-insert the slide stop. This'll fix that, and make life easier. It will also keep away any chances of the "idiot scratch".

The DW already has the cut.

Damn, that's double NICE, beautiful! Congrats MOGC, i fire the big fat squishy 230gr Gold Dots in my Commander, that and FMJ flat points, both handloaded to around 950, great combos imho.

Thanks Gunner. I have a little stash of the old Winchester Ranger T 230 gr. +P that should get to around 900 fps from the 4.25" barrel. If they run reliably and are accurate enough they are going in the magazine. I have shot a few deer, one hog and several feral dog/cats and they did an excellent job.

Not a fluke. I have 3 DW 1911s and they all had the same problem. The detent spring for the safety and slide stop is very stiff. I replaced the spring in all 3 and the problem disappeared.

I bet Hickock45 would like to have that information.

The first one I changed out, the amount of pressure built up in that spring really caught me off guard. That detent hit me right on the tip of the nose at about mach 3.
