I would look over on the Accurate Reloading forums. The custom rifle sub forum might have some members who could help you track down the information

I have a rifle built by Sterling, probably one of the last dozen or so that he built. Mine was built on a Steyr Mauser with a surface ground front ring but I can't tell what yours is from the photos. He built some guns on Model 70s as well. Mine used a Blackburn trigger and I believe that he used Douglas barrels. I wish I had more info: he was a skilled craftsman, a real gentleman and his prices were extremely reasonable.
Sterling was featured in a very comprehensive chapter of the Gun Digest Book of Riflesmithing and, since you own the rifle, will probably find the piece interesting:

Thank you for the article! Great information.
Thaks so much for the info. Mine is built on Winchester Model 70.
Yessir...now dona proper intro and GFY
Happy hunting
That is a Winchester Model 70 receiver. The G prefix started in the early 1970's.
The bolt is not shown in the photo.
Please post a photo. Push feed or controlled round feed?
Sometimes he would modify bolt handles and knobs, which can be interesting.
Guesstimate is late '70's - 80's, maybe '90's based on the number and when he was most actively building.
He often used Blackburn bottom metal, but not always.
Barrels often were Douglas, but not always.
The wood is walnut, hard to guess the source, at least for me. A wood expert might know.
I have two by him, a .308 and a .30-06. Very nice shooting rifles.
Been looking for a .300 to go with them.
Let me know if you decide to sell it.
Nice looking rifle, congratulations. 👍
With that serial, that action will be a crf from ~1995.
Nice rifle!
👍
Interesting find, AKW. Beautiful rifle in a great caliber in the old school style (blued steel and walnut). Sadly, there is little chance of getting $3200 for such a rifle now-a-days.
Its the same rifle as shown by the OP, and I wonder if "asctournament" on the 'Fire is "57mistermoney" on Gunbroker. I hope has good luck with the sale, regardless.
My .280 Remington on a 1909 Argentine Mauser (DWM) was built by Sterling Davenport. Barrel is a Douglas as I recall.

If the one in this thread was only a 280! …
Another SD … this one a lefty and quite a bit higher ask.
