.........Of course the 30-06 has always worked and always will. The problem is, is that`s its too darn common and far too generic. I started out at 9 years old bench shooting a 30-06 and nailed my 1st deer with it at 10 years old. Kept it for many years.
Swampy is right, but I consider other cartridges to be far more exciting. That means less boredom imo.
And there's something to be said about everyone playing nicely with others and not having incessant drama and conflict. Drama gets real old real quick.
But while your Haybale & Crockett tales ain't never not funny, you still haven't a clue as to what goes on in the real world. Go out, do sumptin, and report back to me. Results is never not a good thing. And you can't even begin to phein a [bleep] clue as to what results are.

I find him to be an abrasive person.
I find him to be both, but very knowledgable in the areas hes familiar with, and wise enough to be mute on those areas hes not familiar with. Plus he takes photos that are absolutely second to none...
He just has some trouble expressing himself to some people, and to others, he does a bang-up job of "expressing"
Well, everybody is different, with different tastes in friends and humor, or what they perceive it to be. And there's no doubt that he has no issues with low self-esteem, and that if he becomes annoyed with someone or what they say he isn't particularly circumspect with expressing himself. But I still find him interesting, and his pics are first-rate. He obviously has expertise in some areas, although I think some people may get shut down by his personality and method of expression before they get a chance to evaluate the content of what he says. He is cocky, and that appears to be a problem for some.

BigStick is VERY knowledgeable about hunting and rifles. He has twisted up more custom rifles than any 10 competitive shooters I know. He puts more rounds down range in a year than 50 of us do in a year. He has killed more big critters than any 10 professional hunters I know. I have spent hours on the phone with him picking his brain and laughing myself to tears. The way he talks is just the way he types. Sure he can be abrasive to some, but once you get to know the real Larry and his background, you don't even notice it. He has a wealth of knowledge and expertise based on personal experience, not what someone said or wrote.
He has sent me numerous home videos of his hunts and shooting. My gosh, he can shoot and isn't afraid to prove it. He is the real deal and if a combination of rifle/scope/fasteners or bullets can be broken, he will break them. He is HARD on equipment, to say the least. Flinch
I think it may be a bit more than that. We all use our stuff. I think it's a combination of him using his a lot more than we do, as in being out in the weather all the time, coupled with the apparently hostile weather that is prevalent where he lives. As a result of living in a crucible and using his stuff all the time, he serves as a real-world lab case establishing what works and what doesn't work. Instead of us having to learn the hard way, we get to learn from his experiences. While I find his personality interesting, others are put off by it to the point where they don't allow themselves to assimilate what he has to say, and thus they do not profit from his experiences. Or, if he gores their favorite ox, they may not allow themselves to be confused by facts because their minds are already made up. While I may not agree with everything he says, it is for me, as for everyone, to filter what he says and keep that which we find useful and discard that which we don't. In any event, he takes killer pics, and, to me at least, he's entertaining and informative. YMMV.
Yep, he's a character. Always has been, since I read his first post on another site, long before I even belonged to this one. Figure he's always been a character. Imagine what a hoot he's gonna be if he makes it into old age, regaling folks with his tales?
My point was, that the little varmint seldom yaks something up on here, that he hasn't already had some personal knowledge of. Beyond that, he's pretty damn fair at predicting what might work and what likely won't.
As opposed to the vast amount of BS posted here by people "armed" only with opinions, minus any firsthand knowledge on the issue. And I use the term "armed", very loosely. ;O)

Having worked 40+ years in the construction business has afforded me a fairly thick hide. So jibes and ridicule cause me little, if any problems. They go both ways in my world.
