Got the modified rings from 16bore the other day. As I've reported, great work, great fit. Tikka T3 7mm08, B&C stock, Talley LW's, VX3 2.5-8x36

Not much of a target poster, but all works as it should also.

What bolt shroud is that?
That's a real $hitty rifle there JG. You should send it to me for proper disposal.
I've been a 7mag slut for over 30 years, now I'm just a slut I guess.....becoming very fond of the 7-08

Dogcatcher, sharp eye there. Just got a wild hair and used the black one that came with it, scratched it up, used acetone, sprayed it with flat olive camo spray paint, sprayed black webbing....perfect match. I figured worse case I'd strip it and repaint it flat black but I kind of like it.
Pretty slick on the shroud JG. Glad they're working for you.....
16 Bore, I really like those modified mounts. If I had a Tikka, I'd be begging you to make me a set.
I guess I'm in the dark on these. Modified how and from what? They appear to have been dovetailed.
Tikka Talley Tinkering....
Now yer talkin', JG!

I'm switching to Big Game for all my 708's. Where do you think 45.5 falls between a medium charge and max? Is it getting close to the top?
yukon......how the heck are you buddy? I'm at max mag length @ roughly 2.805 OAL. I worked up loads from 43.5 to 48g in .5g increments and got the sticky bolt thing going @ 48. To be honest none of the groups were much over 1". Since I'm getting older and becoming more of a big puzzy I decided that I'd settle for a moderate recoil load around 2800fps and that's where the 45.5 landed. You can see by the pics, the magnum primers, in this case Fed 215M, sucked up the group pretty good. This was the third time I verified this load, comparing CCI BR's and Fed 215M and the Fed sucked them up every time. Mule Deer gave me the tip and it worked wonderfully. Hope that helps.

BTW, I was lusting over the pics of your modified Tikkas on that other thread......way sweet my friend.
How about extra lows milled.... grin

Lowlife.....

Are you running any 50mm Obj scopes? Had a fella asking about them and Med/Lows. I'm thinking it's gonna have to be highs, based on my 'rithmatic....
Sweet mistem! I'm really diggin' this T3 setup.
You'll be diggin in your pockets when he tells you what the Edge stocked Tikka weighs.......

Nope...no 50mm for me,they gather too much dust and snow grin
But the 40mm's will work with extra lows milled...love these lowriders

Gotta stay away from you bastids then........I've got a kid in college.
I always ran R15 powder in my 7-08's in the past...
I've heard R15 works great too. Truth be known in this rifle I don't think it would matter much. Varget, IMR 4350, H4350, and Big Game have all given me very accurate loads.
I have 3, all with modified Talleys. They all look like this:

Ok, how much does it weigh? I have an Edge on order for mine and am curious. Thanks.

Extra low Milled Talleys, Leupold 3.5X10X40, Edge Sako Classic LOP 13.125" = 6 lbs 9 ozs in 30-06 sprg grin

Edge by itself....24.2 ozs [Linked Image]
Great shooting rifle, but I am not surprised in that I've never owned a 708 that wouldn't shoot like that. I've always gotten great results with Big Game and RL15 in that cartridge.

Mitch, that scope is darn near sitting on that barrel. Is there enough room for buttler creek flip-ups or alumina caps and hows the bolt handle clearance (does it rub)?
Bolt clears fine , Butler Creek caps will not fit, Aluma covers fit and work great grin

Don't feel all alone. The new 708 I'm building this week gets a Muscle Brake. I shoot WAY too much to put up with that crap.

And in my opinion...2800 in a 708 is near perfect. Clear a spot on your calendar for me in Jan...
I'm prayin' for rain again/still yukon......I'm at the mercy of the landowners still for access just like last year....but I'm really hopin!

Who are you getting to do your work on the custom Tikkas? Have you found one barrel maker that works better with them? Gracias Amigo!
I have a 'smith right here that builds 1000 yard BR rifles. He's been taking my money. I'm taking all the parts for one more, and 2 actions up there tomorrow.

I have a Kreiger in a .284 that just hammers, another one that passes inspection, and I'm giving him a Lilja tomorrow. A shilen in the safe, and another Kreiger in a month.

I'm liking Kreiger, Lilja, and Brux right now.

I'll pray for rain for ya...
Al, are you using standard Tikka mags to feed that 284? If so, standard or magnum? Just wondering if the fat case is a problem in a standard mag.

Thanks
Just a plain old Tikka Long Action magazine and bolt stop. Donor was a .270.
