Have heard several people complain they can't find the ammo they need and guns are flying off the shelves. Wait times for Colorado backgound checks were running two days last week.

COVID-19 is a better gun salesman than Obummer.

Approximately 17,800 rounds for .22 Short, Long Rifle and Win Mag

Plus about 2,560 rounds total for the following:
.25ACP, ,32 H&R Mag, .327 Fed. .380 ACP, 9mm Luger, .38 SPL, .357 Mag, .40 S&W, .44 Mag, .45 ACP
.223, 5.56, .22-250. .243 Win, .257 Roberts, 6.5CM, 6.5-06AI, .280 Rem, 7mm RM,
.300BLK, .30-40 Krag, .308 Win, .30-06, .300WM, .338WM. .375 Win, .45-70

Not shown in the photos are over 21,000 primers, over 6,700 bullets, 5000-6000 pieces of brass and a lot of powder in my reloading room..

It pays to be prepared. Obummer taught me that. When I bought my Walther PPK/s in early 2009 it was almost 3 months before I could find components or ammo for it.

Like I tell my kids - we have paper towels, toilet paper and the meat is walking around in the backyard.

I’ve heard reports from multiple small LGS that they are basically sold out of pretty much everything - guns, ammo and mags - and this is even more of a panic than Sandy Hook.

I learned my lesson. I have plenty of everything including primers and powder. It will be a very, very long time before I run out.
Posted By: ChipM Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/24/20
Locally its the same thing here.

The difference my friend at the LGS told me is that during the Obama run, it was people on the right side buying everything, this time both the left and right are buying and more first time buyers than he has ever seen. The problem in the snowflake state I reside in is that you need a CC permit or permit to buy long guns, our Department of Safety has shut down from issuing any new permits

I am stocked fine but i have been poking around the sites in the morning. Lots of components are blown out, powder, brass, primers, bullets. Stuff got crazy quick.
Posted By: Magnum_Bob Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/24/20
Well CH your ok for a week or so but after that you got a bow?
Posted By: VaHillbilly Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/24/20
Yeah i think most serious shooters should still be stocked up from the Sandy hook/Obama era but there are always the panic hoarders, this should pass very soon 👍......Hb

I just had a NICS (fed system) come back on a firearm transfer in record time. Sucks to be in a commie territory
Posted By: alwaysoutdoors Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/24/20
Bout time the ammo and firearm businesses got a good sales surge

Just checked with my LGS here in Denver, and wait time as of this morning was 4.5 days. That is up by 0.5 days from yesterday morning.

Been thinking about one. Only thing I ever killed with a bow was a rabbit. That was over 50 years ago.

Better dust it off. You'll be living on rabbits after the liberal potheads that just bought guns kill all the elk and mulies. laugh

I have Granddad's Remington 24 for rabbits. .22 Shorts only, built in the early 1930's. Still shoots great and I have about 2500 rounds for it. smile

What I saw at the gun couters a week ago was people were buying more handguns than long guns by a wide margin. The longguns I saw being bought were .22,s and ARs.
Posted By: bsa1917hunter Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/24/20
Im waiting for the price of ar's to be $3,000.00 again. Ill sell one and throw in a case of ammo. whistle
Posted By: Darryle Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/24/20
The girlfriend asked me about ammo, I opened the safe in the shop and showed her that we were going to be okay.

I haven't seen any gouging online other than the usual asshats, still buy a case(200rds) of hunting ammo every week for the rifles we have.
Posted By: clockwork_7mm Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/24/20
I don't remember online vendors selling out as quickly during previous shortages. Pretty wild to see Midway and SOSS out of stock fkr everything on the same day. But as someone already mentioned, the pool of buyers is way larger this time, and virtually none of them load their own. Bullets and hand sanitizer... currency of the end times?!
Posted By: Quak Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/24/20
I’ve learned far too many times when it comes to ammo and reloading. I’m well stocked and rotate in new inventory as I use stuff so I don’t have to panic buy and add to the problem

I use a lot of varget so I keep 3 8lb jugs on hand...each time I empty one I buy another. 3k primers same same, 3k 9x19 same same, 3k of 7.62x39 same same

3k of the bullets I reload too.

I wish I was smart enough to do that with Beer, TP and canned goods. I won’t make that mistake again
Posted By: Coyote_Hunter Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/24/20
They shut down the liquor stores in Denver.

That lasted 3 hours.
Posted By: Quak Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/24/20
Hahahahaha.
Posted By: Odessa Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/25/20
The only thing I learned from the Bill and Hillary days (remember the "assault weapons ban" - CCA of 94?) I started buying components and ammo way back then - they taught me a good lesson!

CH, I just remembered..... I killed a Turkey with a bow. That's it.

I will not live long enuff to shoot all the ammo or components I have............

under either circumstance! Comprende'
Posted By: 2500HD Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/25/20
I don’t have any. All washed away during the last rain we had. That’s my story. I wouldn’t itemize inventory on the web!!!
Posted By: EdM Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/25/20
I have all of everything I shoot well in hand.
Posted By: Remington6MM Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/25/20
I sure wish I hadn't try to move ALL of my ammo across the river in that borrowed canoe. Who knew they tipped over so easy.

I'll bet that farmer was pissed!😜

I haven't been to town in a week but I expect it's much the same here....not that I would know anyway. Other than a few boxes of semi-auto handgun ammo I haven't bought centerfire rifle ammo in over 40 years except for a couple cases of surplus 30 Carbine back in the 80's. It's still in the tan colored wrapper it came in. Oh, 'bout the same time I bought I think 1,000 rounds of 7.62 X 39. It's still in the original wrapper as well.

I know I'm not the only one who remembers the GCA of 1968. I was a whopping 15 YO at the time but it made an impression. Remember having to sign for handgun ammo, even 22 LR? I do and I know a lot of others do. Anyway, even as a kid, as soon as I was able I kept a supply of ammo and the loading components Dad and I used. 'Course back then it was nothing like I have now. Anyway, NO "crisis" has EVER caught me with my pants down......except the TP thing this time...I DID NOT see that coming...lol!!

Sounds like a plan. I have three (.223/5.56, .300BLK and .308). They just take up space in the safe as I don't shoot them. (Hate the ergos, hate chasing brass and hate fiddling with a brass catcher.)

If the prices sky rocket again I might sell two of them.
Posted By: saddlesore Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/25/20
Seems like the ones on here talking about ammo shortage and hoarding are part of the ones that are doing the hoarding and causing the shortage

If anyone is out of anything after 2008, 2012, Sandy Hook, Las Vegas...they are not bright enough to own firearms.
Posted By: Tannhauser Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/25/20
There's no such thing as "ammo hoarding". There are people who have planned ahead and purchased plenty when prices were low and availability high and then there are people who failed to plan, and now have to pay much higher prices for a scarce commodity.
Posted By: lastround Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/25/20
I’ve got plenty of brass, bullets, powder, primers, and lead to cast! Ammo shortage? Nah! I planned ahead 42 yrs. ago!

Well, you have a nice start there. You also have made yourself a target for all the nutjobs seeking to hurt gun owners with ERPO's. If the news media sees that you would be castigated with the leftist crime of having an "arsenal". Be safe my friend.

Being charitable and cautious, I might have phrased it more gently, but yeah, some folks just never learn. In this WWW world info gets around pretty quicky and people get cranked up and react, and over-react. Absolutely zero excuse for getting caught short these days. Being a handloader is a huge advantage, but even those who don't should accumulate enough stuff to keep them running through the tight spots. I've got a good bit myself, acquired over time, mostly at sale prices. That ain't hoarding, it's prudence in action, with a little frugality thrown in.

The same principle applies to food, tp, cleaning products, and basic medical supplies. I topped off a couple of things when the craziness started, but was already set for something like this. No MREs, no bunker, just enough stuff to get through a month or two of whatever might happen.

Going fishing today (an essential activity under our Governor's lockdown order). Hoping for some fresh protein, and a little extra for later.

Since the COVID-19 panic I've purchased te following:
2 pounds of StaBall for my 6.5CM (had none and wanted to try it)
2 boxes (40 rounds) of Federal .32 H&R Mag ammo for my wife to use
1 box of 100 pieces of Starline .32 H&R Mag brass
1 box Hornady 85g XTP for the .32 H&R
1 box Hornady 100g XTP for the .32 H&R

If that is "hoarding", so be it.

My other bullets and components have been acquired over the 38 year period dating back to 1982 but with most being acquired since 2009. There were no mass, panic purchases, just a slow but steady influx of components and some factory ammo a box or pound or two at a time. As someone who reloads for 25 (26?) different cartridges as a hobby, it doesn't do me much good to have the equipment without the correct components. The rimfire and factory ammo is not just for myself but for my daughters and their families as well.

Back during the Obummer years I watched a man buy a brick of .22's at a gun show so he could go shooting with his kid. He paid $150 for the brick. I wasn't buying .22's back or much of anything else back then. When prices started dropping, I started buying. I call it "planning ahead".

Posted By: Hudge Re: Ammo shortage? - 03/26/20
The only thing I have bought during this "buying spree" or "panic" is reloading components. I got tired of hearing the wife complain about me not using the reloading equipment she bought me 4 Christmas' ago. Between staying home with her after her surgery and working a 2 on/2 off schedule the last week due to Covid-19, I'm reloading for 4 different calibers now. Instead of hearing her complain about not using my reloading gear, I hear her complaining about buying too much stuff. The only thing I have really bought though is one box of .284 ELD-X bullets, 2 boxes of .264 ELD Match bullets, three pounds of different powders and some .280 and .260 Rem brass.

I stopped by my LGS to check things out. As y'all know there is a lot of talk about runs on Guns & Ammo, it raised by curiosity.

I got a LAUGH outta this.

As you can see 'some' ammo is sold out. NO 9mm.

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

There IS an advantage to having a 40 SW.

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

I bought 1 box of Aguila 40 SW, 180 FMJ, $ 15.99 per 50.
I left ALL the rest for other folk.
