I'm looking at buying a European build rifle. It has a monte-carlo comb but also has the dropping pig's back style stock. Is this acceptable if I am going to put a scope on the rifle?
Must be pretty good, the Euros like ‘em.
they remind me of a hump-backed dick.....
Have a CZ 550 FS in 9.3x62 with the hogs back stock. No problems shooting it, it's actually a very accurate rifle.
The Hog Back style stock serves the same purpose as a Monte Carlo style stock, it gives a more natural shoulder position but holds the cheek weld to establish good contact with the shooter, I find them quite comfortable and easy to shoulder providing a natural point of aim unlike most Classic style stocks.

I thought the purpose was to lower the eye to align it with the iron sights. IOW, the Europeans like them because they use irons sights a lot more than Americans. I was afraid that having a low placement like that might cause me to raise my cheek off the stock in order to see through my scope.
There's a Bavarian stock on my CZ 527. It looks funny to Americans, but I like shooting it just fine.
Thanks Theo Gallus -- and it has a scope on it?
I like them and find they work great for optics

Like any stock design, it depends on the particular stock's dimensions and how well it fits you. I have one with a hog's back stock at the moment which fits me well. I have a couple of other Euro rifles with low combs, but with less curve, and they do me fine too, but I'm used to holding my head upright, not dropping it onto the comb, and having whatever part of my face meets the comb serve as "cheek weld". As long as the butt meets my shoulder and the scope ends up in front of my eye I'm good to go, even if it is actually more my jaw than my cheek in contact with the comb.
I have used others with hog's back stocks which did okay too, but some are bloody awful. One I remember without fondness had a hog's back comb which was far too narrow, and a narrow steel buttplate, and it knocked me around more than it should.
if you are shooting a boomer off the bench the muzzle flip is really bad with these stocks.

😁
Hanco, just look at geedubs pics and try to tell me I'm wrong.....

My 458 has a european style stock and I find it very comfortable. A friend after shooting my rifle replaced his "American" style stock on his 416 Rigby and has been much happier. Bottom line is the internet cannot predict what will fit you.

I have been a fan of the Steyr Mannlicher M Professional and hated the switch to the SBS but I fear after seeing geedubya’s guns I might have to give one a try. Damn enablers everywhere on this site

Yes.

Three more "hump-dick" Steyrs, with scopes!
Top: Steyr Classic Mannlicher, 8mm x 57 JS
Middle: Steyr Mannlicher Classic, 7mm-08 Rem.
Bottom: Steyr Ultra Light, 223 Rem.

Gee, those are almost as handsome as my humpbacked Wee Willy Winky.

Say what? Don't find that to be the case.

Somehow I doubt that, but definitely will not ask you to prove it!
Anywho, do like your "boner"!!
That is a sweet one!
Let me know if you ever decide to part with it.

I like my boner just fine, even with the slight hump-back....grin
To tell the truth, I've lusted after your blue-veined walrus dick boner for a long time. But since I've got this one, the lust has waned. It will have to have my cold, dead fingers pryed from it upon my demise....

I have a CZ 550 Lux with the hump back stock and it works fine for me with a scope. It's a 9.3x62 and shooting from the bench tends to drive my right elbow into the bench and gets uncomfortable after a few rounds. Guess I need an elbow pad for extended bench sessions but no issues otherwise...

I have been using a lead sled with weight for years. Have never had an issue with stock damage, and I've shot a lot of boomers off it. I find that it helps prevent developing a flinch, especially when doing load development on the big 30's and up throu 45 cal.
I don't know about you guys, but in the field when I shoot a critter, I can't remember ever having the recoil be the number one memory.

I'm rather fond of this one. Admittedly not in GW's league, but still...
Had a CZ 550 in 458 WM that was tough off the bench. Never had any others bother me. 9.3x62 was one of them. Be Well, Rustyzipper.
Not many in GW's league, he seems to live in gun owners heaven, some place in Texas.
I like your rifle alot, could you tell us a little about it.
GW you gotta stop with the gun porn. I'm still wiping the slobber of my keyboard.

Mine? CZ 527 in .223. 1-9. SWFA 2.5-10 Ultralight. Hoping to take it to WY for antelope this year.
You mean a Hog's back? Be Well, Rustyzipper.
Very nice, Son_of_the_Gael. Good luck with it in WY.
