I joined the fire in 2011 and the "must have" thing was a fast twist 243 AI, and it also seemed that everyone was shooting a TTSX. What was the hot topic, or "must have" cartridge, rifle, or whatever when you joined?

280 Ackley. Still have two...
Posted By: 01Foreman400 Re: For fun - 03/29/20
The 7mm-08 was pretty popular when I joined. I have 5 of them.

Have a regular 243 for 35 years, 280ai was the cartridge, so I had a custom built.
7-08 was a favorite for me, so I rebarreled a sa.
257 weatherby was a hot topic here, and a cartridge I always wanted, so I have one. It's bad a$$ !!!
7-08, and 257 here.

223 AI comes to mind.

Pretty sure it was about something other than cartridges though.

Why else would I have joined??

I don't recall. What I do recall is that, with very rare occasion, it was when half the people didn't think the other half were morons, jerks, racists, had lady parts, etc., etc. I'm not sure when that changed. Hot topic was probably the start of the light rifle craze.

They'd be responsible for me getting a 223 Montana... if I ever ran across a good deal on one.

The various "Short Mags" were very cricket at the time. Now, not so much....
Posted By: fats Re: For fun - 03/29/20
25-284 was big here at one time. Same with the .223 AI.
Posted By: longshot3 Re: For fun - 03/29/20
How about the "faux Ti"? I built one in 7-08. I sent that one down the road to fund something else.

I don't remember exactly but I do remember this -

223 AI twisted fast
SUCKS with Pac-Nor in a McM (Winchester was a BLOWS and a Ruger was a BITES)
7-08 was hot

Pac-Nor was the place everyone went to be trued up and have a barrel fitted. Charlie Sisk was active and a fan favorite as well.

It was after I joined but the 260 Rem had a big buzz.

You know, the original Creedmoor. So glad I bought one.
Posted By: longshot3 Re: For fun - 03/30/20
There was also a guy, maybe Swampguy700, or something like that with a golf cart.
Posted By: Cigar Re: For fun - 03/30/20
Not a clue..........
Posted By: doctor_Encore Re: For fun - 03/30/20
Over the years on the fire I can recall "Annual" trends as the cartridge of the year to acquire but not necessarily in order by year. .260 rem...243AI....257Robt's....7X57....280 Rem....35 Whelan....280AI.....9.3X62....and lastly...the 6.5 Creedmoor. No one has mentioned the discussion of a rifle cartridge to get rid of which of course is the .270 by post count alone.

I tend to not follow a herd... and walk my own path...

so who knows what was a "must have" when I joined... I am sure it made my " Don't need list" instead...

Very true! Lots of useless BS talk in this section now.

Yes, that would have been Clay's poolside pictures in the classifieds.

Unfortunately haven't seen any of his ads for a couple of years.

Sadly, Clay passed.....

In 2001, the trends were referring to Remington as "Sucks", Leupold on everything, and McMillan stocks. Put all three together and you were one of the cool kids, especially if you bought the parts from other members.

I never made the cut.

Ti’s.
I can’t remember if I found this place while looking for ti’s; or found this place and then started looking for ti’s!
Either way, it was the start of a costly affair! eek

Newly joined & it's all about the various Scrotmore this & Scrotmore that & Scrotmore with RL16 & Scromore with 166 VLDEZQs. Oh... dont forget the 270 owners (not necessarily the same as the Scrotmorians) defending their masculinity. I see there are a few almost regular folks here too.

No idea what the "must have" cartridge was when I joined in 2004. Or since.

All I know is I've filled a couple safes since then. Kids getting out of college was a good thing. smile
