I am looking for folks who have experience with the 17 HMR 20 grain loads on grey or fox squirrels? There are three I am aware of Hornady 20 gr. XTP, CCI 20 gr. gamepoint and CCI 20 gr. FMJ.

I have used the 20 grain xtp on game. I would still try for head shots but would not hesitate to take body shots. I have shot squirrels and grouse with mine. Entrance is small exit is about the size of the tip of my thumb. The bullet does not fragment just punches a nice clean hole. So punch the treerats through the ribs and you will not lose anything worth saving.

I've used 17gr. TNT's on squirrel and got about 1/4" exit wounds.
