My daughter got sucked into the blogosphere at The annual SCI show and hopefully a view of guiding in Alaska through the eyes of a woman guide/ outfitter will be of interest

Congrats to the proud PAPA !
Ya done good Phil!
I'd volunteer to be your kid if you gave me a 99 like that one.
Way beyond simply impressive!!!
Ron couldn't have picked a better representative. CONGRATS to Tia!
You to Phil.
That's great (truly!)! And she shoots a Savage 99 chambered in 416 Remington!?!
Thanks for sharing Phil - I think you raised a good egg there.
"Women are all over the hunting world these days. Most are deadly serious and effective. A few seem more interested in self exposure than hunting. Tia Shoemaker is not one of those."
So, on the "women more interested in self-exposure thing", is Mia guiding Tiffany Lakosky? She's one of those TV show types (The Crush w/ Lee and Tiffany) who (along with her hubby) drew a DG-478 goat tag on the Kodiak road system.
Tia is substitute teaching here on Kodiak today and has a couple of Kodiak outfitters wanting her to guide here for bear this spring as she is registered for unit 8 also. But the dates are pretty tight with our season on the peninsula
And her 99 takedown is a 300 , with the additional 410 bbl.
I am sure she will be discussing her 416 in a later blog.
I will follow her blog and my Grandson will also.
That is cool.
You must be a proud dad!
Look forward to reading/watching her adventures!
And hey-- she will probably be intimidating to some hunters--
Very cool, Phil! Congrats all around.
Jeff
What a remarkable young women and I envy her growing up where she did. Many safe and adventurous years I pray for her and your family. You’ve done well Sir!
I am so glad I clicked on this today! Great story, I look forward to reading her books some day!
Just outstanding. In the guiding community Shoemaker is pretty well accepted as the real deal. That he raised a lass of similar timber comes as no surprise, but it sure makes me happy
A young lady to be proud of. Shares a strong resemblance to her momma in the bush plane pic.
Enjoyed that first read. Thanks for letting us know, Phil.
Great kid (kids, both of them). Great Pictures.
Way to represent.!
I love stories like these.
Can't wait till she runs for Governor.!!!
I suspect the Apple did not fall far from the tree. Sounds like an interesting young lady. Well done Sir.
Very well-written, I like her style--humble and understated. Her blog will have a big following.
Fantastic article.
Really looking forward to hearing of her adventures.Very well done sir.
Looking at the pic with the 4 at the airplane, it's amazing how much she favors her mother.
Great Stuff!
Phil,
From the evidence so far, she might eventually surpass her father in both hunting and writing!
John, with Ron as her blog mentor and editor how could she not !
The next one will be out this week
What a great start. Looking for her next effort. I really appreciate Ron opening the door, and you Phil for giving her the back round and experience to be able to do this. Wonderful life she's had.
Very good, CONGRATULATIONSS.
She's probably lurking here, taking names....
Please let us know when new posts are available. Thanks!
That's a GREAT story. Read it a couple days ago....
I was hunting with a client from the cabin referred to in her story and my client decided to end the day early due to the rotten weather. Which continued to deteriorate all night.
We always have a radio check every night and two camps, Tia's and another guide Tim, didn't call in so I figured they had killed and were having an interesting evening. Tia almost made it to the cabin and Tim and his hunter made it to another camp due to the fact that even the little creek by their camp was too dangerous to cross.
A very good read, thank you.
What an incredible story!
A great story. Thank you Phil and Tia for sharing your adventures with us.
The unvarnished truth, I like it.
Good fun read. I was on each step with Her and them. Great writing. Thanks for posting.
That was a great story. But now because of the "teaser" we'll have to wait to see what happened with the charging bear. When is the next one due out?
I think she survives the bear charge 😉 But it was close . I think she is hoping to get out a couple stories per month when possible but bear season starts in a couple of weeks and both she, her brother and I will be guiding so I can't say when she will have another one ready.
I do know the NRA is trying to get her to do some writing as well.
Great story, well told. Thank you!
Will you or and Daughter be here for the NRA convention next month?
Unfortunately the NRA convention is always during spring bear season.
You done good, Phil (and no small credit to your wife either). And though you're well established as a very credible big game guide yourself, I surmise your even bigger contribution to the world is in raising the young 'ungs....both in light of and in spite of yourselves, to be a credit to themselves and their parents!
Thank you, and I am well aware that my wife deserves over half the credit as anyone who has shared a camp with us can attest .
And Besides the guiding, Tia is doing a credible job assisting her mother in the culinary and managing aspects of the business
Looking forward to Tia's next insrallment.
I am sure Phil is busy in the bush right now but Tia’s next article went up a few days ago. Really enjoying her stories and looking forward to hearing more about her legend - the dad and her rifle.
