It just dawned on me! If what President Trump needs is 270 (votes) all I need is 270 myself. That’s a 270 Winchester.

Good point!

Yep! And they're pretty easy to find. In my neck of the woods the used racks have more '06 than anything else, with second place about tied between 7RM and .270 Win.
Lot's of great older rifles out there - enjoy the hunt.

They work.

270 for the win, Winchester that is. Everyone needs a 270.

270 Winchester....what a 6.5 always wanted to be!
Posted By: 16bore Re: 270 Needed - 11/04/20
270 gets it done.
Posted By: Hammerdown Re: 270 Needed - 11/04/20
I think a 270 Win. is a good round. I've only taken about ten animals with one. No issues with it.
Posted By: CanadianLefty Re: 270 Needed - 11/04/20
It's a great round and I think very highly of it after using it for everything from coyote to deer to Zebra and Kudu.
Posted By: vapodog Re: 270 Needed - 11/04/20
I have a couple of them.....I use a .30-06 more but if I had to, I'd not feel slighted in the least with a .270 WCF and a 130 grain TTSX.

I have 3 and they all work fine without Barnes bullets. Mb
Posted By: Pappy348 Re: 270 Needed - 11/04/20
Well you ain’t getting either of mine!

One has a lot of “sweat equity” put into it, and the other is a lucky score of an old custom I could never afford to duplicate. Both are good shooters to boot, but I’ve come to expect that, and with minimal fuss at the loading bench.

If I needed one, I’d scour the usual sources until I found a Fieldcraft, but a new M70 Featherweight would work too.

What about a M70 Sporter? Only a 4 ounces heaver than a Featherweight.
Posted By: shaman Re: 270 Needed - 11/04/20
But then, wouldn't a 280 REM be even better? Or even 30-06 to push you over the top without any need for the Supreme Court to get involved? How about a B 29 just to split the difference?
Posted By: ttpoz Re: 270 Needed - 11/04/20
If Trump gets his 270 I might just buy a third .270 to celebrate! Good idea! (any excuse to justify another rifle purchase)
Posted By: 257Bob Re: 270 Needed - 11/04/20
I have owned a number of 270s, a personal favorite. However, if I were building one today, I'd run a faster twist to 150s and up. If I'm shooting 130s or 140s, I think I'll just use my 6.5. The only advantage the 280 has over the 270 is a faster twist.

Sure. Being kinda old and creaky kinda inclines me towards lightweight stuff. The sporter would be all steel too, IIRC.

Lotsa good choices, actually. Those two were just on top of the stack.

If you're looking for a lightweight option look no further than the Seekins Havak Element. Bare rifle, you're under 6 lbs.

Well it may be time to go hunting leftist vote fraud lowlifes, and any round will do.

.270 for me

That's an excuse to class it up with a more rare cartridge or firearm. Yesterday I was thinking 218 Bee out of a single-shot to keep it sporty.

I currently have four 270’s. Killed two elk with ‘em this year. If Trump needs one to get him over the top I’d gladly gift it to him........

I once read a very well known gun scribe write about it as being a damned adequate coyote rifle....or very close to that! I don’t recall ever shooting a yotie with one but if I point it right it kills deer very danged adequately.

I’d give my person 270 away as well if it got Trump his 270.....and it is among my very favorites 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

How many guns did Elmer blow up? I'm not sure if the tally is confidence-instilling.

Not many choices if you're looking for a CRF.
Posted By: Pappy348 Re: 270 Needed - 11/05/20
There’s more if you aren’t wedded to new ones. Both mine are FNs, a 1948, and one likely built anytime from the 50’s to possibly 1970 or so. The 1948 is a pig at about 9 3/4 pounds, but the other is more reasonable at something over 8. Anyway, I don’t recall the OP specifying CRF.

I’d consider a Kimber or Tikka too.
Posted By: High_Noon Re: 270 Needed - 11/05/20
Yep. I was referring to new production, but I definitely agree that a used commercial FN or a custom Mauser would certainly be sweet. If you keep yer eyes open a good one will come along. Finding one for the right price, though, is the trick. I've been keeping my eye out for a pre-64, 1909 Argentine, Oberndorf, K98, VZ-24...
Posted By: Pappy348 Re: 270 Needed - 11/05/20
After a bit of trial and error, I think I finally have the Mausers I want for my old age, when it comes 😛. The old custom was a real steal; my smith said he’d have to charge a couple K just for the stock, which I’d just never do. Bottom metal and M70 safety would cost about what I paid for the whole dang rifle.

The latest is a Heym .308 that’s very light, 6lbs 8.8oz with a small red dot on the receiver ring like the driven boar guys use. i really like the way it comes up, and a month spent toting a crossbow wearing a dot around has me convinced it’s a workable combo for the timber. The action on this one is very slick.

I like my other rifles just fine, but there’s just something about about that big hunk of machined, forged steel......

Sure hope for all our sakes that President Trump prevails in this mess. My longest owned centerfire rifle, a Ruger M77 270 WIN my wife bought me first year we were married - it's been killing deer for 43 seasons now (did put a new 3.5-10 scope on it last year).
