It just dawned on me! If what President Trump needs is 270 (votes) all I need is 270 myself. That’s a 270 Winchester.

Yep! And they're pretty easy to find. In my neck of the woods the used racks have more '06 than anything else, with second place about tied between 7RM and .270 Win. Lot's of great older rifles out there - enjoy the hunt. Rex

270 for the win, Winchester that is. Everyone needs a 270.

I think a 270 Win. is a good round. I've only taken about ten animals with one. No issues with it.

It's a great round and I think very highly of it after using it for everything from coyote to deer to Zebra and Kudu.

I have a couple of them.....I use a .30-06 more but if I had to, I'd not feel slighted in the least with a .270 WCF and a 130 grain TTSX.

Well you ain’t getting either of mine!
One has a lot of “sweat equity” put into it, and the other is a lucky score of an old custom I could never afford to duplicate. Both are good shooters to boot, but I’ve come to expect that, and with minimal fuss at the loading bench.
If I needed one, I’d scour the usual sources until I found a Fieldcraft, but a new M70 Featherweight would work too.
What fresh Hell is this?

But then, wouldn't a 280 REM be even better? Or even 30-06 to push you over the top without any need for the Supreme Court to get involved? How about a B 29 just to split the difference?

If Trump gets his 270 I might just buy a third .270 to celebrate! Good idea! (any excuse to justify another rifle purchase)

I have owned a number of 270s, a personal favorite. However, if I were building one today, I'd run a faster twist to 150s and up. If I'm shooting 130s or 140s, I think I'll just use my 6.5. The only advantage the 280 has over the 270 is a faster twist.

Being kinda old and creaky kinda inclines me towards lightweight stuff. The sporter would be all steel too, IIRC. Lotsa good choices, actually. Those two were just on top of the stack.

If you're looking for a lightweight option look no further than the Seekins Havak Element. Bare rifle, you're under 6 lbs.
