Wanting .300 PRC - 01/18/20
Is there any way I could take a Tikka and turn it into a .300 PRC? I believe the action is the same for all calibers and barrels can be replaced or re-bored. I would really like it to end up like my Tikka CTR stainless 6.5 Creed but with a 26" barrel and a muzzle break and keep it light as possible. So I am wondering if the Tikka CTR could be used as a donor and have it re-bored or buy a custom barrel.
Would it be possible to do the same thing but make it into 7mm WSM? Would the Tikka CTR mags work with a .300 PCR?
I am looking for some thing that is a serious over 500 yard rifle that is capable of killing a moose or caribou. I know I could get some more millage out of my custom "Stainless Classic" 338 Winny and the 225 grain TTSX bullet. But the barrel is 23 inches and the case only holds so much powder and I would need a bigger and heavier scope.
I looked at a 26" barreled Christian Arms rifle in .300 PRC and really liked it and the Light weight, but the darn bolt won't lock down on safe when a round is chambered and I want an action that does. Maybe I am making to big of a deal about the bolt locking down, thousands of hunters and shooters don't seem to care.
I have and e-mail out to LAW Rifles asking if that wonderful 704 action will work with a .300 PRC. It is the middle of a cold and dark Alaskan winter and cabin fever must be setting in.
I have a heavy Bushnell 4.5-18x44 LRHSi that would go on the rifle, which I why I want a light weight rifle.
Opinions appreciated.
