I grew cabbage in my garden for the first time this year. It's ready to pick and i need a good recipe for slaw. I would love to have the recipe for KFC's slaw as i like it better than any slaw i have ever had so if anyone has it please let me know. I also want to try some other recipes so let me know what you like.
I'm going to try this one tonight:
4 1/2 teaspoons tarragon vinegar
6 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3/4 cup chopped onion
2 1/2 cups Miracle Whip
1 cup sugar
2 carrots
2 heads cabbage
Directions:
1Mix oil, onions and sugar.2Add tarragon vinegar.3Fold in Miracle Whip.4Pour over grated carrots and cabbage.5Fold in well.6Refrigerate in an air-tight covered dish.7Best if made the night before serving.8The tarragon is the secret seasoning.9Compare with the real KFC coleslaw.10Enjoy.

This is the one from Mrs. ScottF that I referenced in my "It's Cole Slaw Season" thread. I haven't tried adding raisins yet and I use about 1/2 head of green cabbage and about 1/3 head of red cabbage.

From Mrs. Scott F:

Grate or finely chop one head of cabbage
Grate or finely chop 1-2 peeled carrots,
Add a small handful of raisins.

In a small bowl mix,
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon white vinegar
 teaspoon salt
 to 1 cup mayonnaise
Stir in enough milk, a little at a time, to make a smooth dressing the consistency of pancake batter.
Pour the dressing over the slaw & mix gently. Slaw is best when chilled for several hours, but may also be eaten immediately. Taste & adjust seasonings to suit. It may need extra sugar, salt &/or vinegar to make it flavorful with the right mixture of sweet & sour. It gets better with age, some extra liquid may form in the bowl, just stir it in & keep enjoying.
The Mrs Scott F recipe is top notch... I use it almost exclusively and even my girlfriend who hates slaw enjoys it.

I forgot...sometimes I add a finely chopped granny smith apple in the slaw. Something a little different.
I use a somewhat similar recipe to 257's, but make a smaller batch using 1 head of cabbage. I use 1/2 c milk with some lemon & the vinegar added to the milk & let it stand a few minutes.
I also use 2 other ingredients I've never seen anyone else use. A tbl spoon of dijon mustard & 2-3 heaping tbl spoons of frozen orange concentrate, gives it some snap.

I shall be making Mrs. Scott F's recipe next Wednesday!

That recipe looks like what my Great Aunt used to make, only she added some yellow mustard to it. I still haven't found any to compare. And of course she made it on an old pie tin, as she needed it, perfect every time.

The Lady's Coleslaw

I have been using this one for about a year. No complaints from anyone that has tried it, and I believe it to be better than KFC.
Wish I had the reciepe the slaw that the Greek's here in Greenville do at the Clock or Pete's.

This is a recipe I got here several years ago. Those who don't like cole slaw, will eat this because it's better than most. I like mine drier and not creamy/goopy/sweet, so cut back on the mayo and sugar a little.

Oh yes, it was about two hours ago. grin
Thanks again to your lady, Scott!
I told he last night when I read this and it gave her a big smile. Making people happy with good food is what she lives for.
Just made another bucket of slaw today. 1 head of cabbage, 1/2 head of red cabbage, 2 carrots and the slaw sauce.

Not surprisingly, it's awesome. wink
