Got my new .270 Winchester from Gene Simillion just in time for deer season. Can't wait for it to quit raining so I can go shoot it.
.270 Win - LH Model 70
24" Krieger Barrel
Echols Legend Stock
Simillion scope mount
3 panel bolt knob
Spartan Precision quick disconnect magnetic bipod
Swarovski 1.7-13.3X42 Z8i scope
Test target shows .445 3 shot group@100 yards
Should be adequate for deer
That’s beautiful. Shame about the bolt.
Couple questions - did you supply the legend? And what mounts are those - something Gene makes?
Appreciate it … and congrats on a fantastic build!
WOW! Now you're talking! That's a deer getter or about anything else. Nice choices on that rifle and man, awesome build. Congrats!

I supplied the stock. I bought 3 from D’Arcy a few years back. I’m down to my last one. This one was built on a carbon fiber fill.
Gene makes his own scope mount (and the bolt knob). He surface grinds the receiver to make it perfectly in line with the barrel. Seems to work 👍🏻. I wish he could retrofit my 416 with his scope mount, but it has to be done at the same time the barrel is fitted.
Beautiful rifle. From the photos the fit of the stock seems to be excellent. Love the contrasting color of the recoils pad.
Nicely done.
absolutely gorgeous! What a shooter!
Great looking rifle! I hope you got a discount for the bolt being on the wrong side
gorgeous!! very well done
Veddy nice! BobinNH is smilin' down.

I was thinking the same.. He would've oogled that sucka....
Heck Randy is smiling from Montana somewhere. Looks good.
Oh, that's a nice rifle!!! Congrats.
Fantastic! That is a winner all the way around.
Congrats on a fine rifle!
I came back from MT just to see that build, nicely put together...enjoy!
Nice Build.
Gene Simillion is about as good as it gets for precision barreling/chambering for hunting rifles .
I currently have two 300 Mags a Short Throated .300 Wea. And a .300 H&H done by Gene and they are two of the most accurate hunting rifles I have owned. I love .270’s for deer and pronghorn hunting. Just having a rt hand .270 pre 64 , Krieger barrel , Echol’s McMillan Legend, action/barrel work done up by Mark Penrod that is at the stocker now. Hope it shoots as well as yours .
Pretty sweet rifle for a lefty..
Just right. Gene is a prince of a guy. He can do it all.
Very nice... a lifetime rifle.
Reminds me of something Allen Day would have built.
Very nice rifle Ngrumba! I hope you make many memories with it.
Beautiful rifle. Congratulations.
Very Nice!!
Does Gene have a website??
Lots of hours in that build, very nice. I personally love the re-sculptured tang.
Gene is always a pleasure to talk to and do business with. Top tier builder w/o question.

Any difference between Penrods and Gene's guns John? I know both are top fellas.
That is a spectacular rifle! I could like that much.

Spectacular rifle! I would also like to know your opinion on the difference between a Penrod and Simillion. I would think they are very close in build quality etc. Penrod’s bolt handle is a little more pleasing to my eye but that’s a personal preference.
Great rifle... like really great... only problem is... it would make most other rifles unnecessary and that makes me uneasy....
Not very much difference between them Scotty. Gene builds his own scope mounts, don’t think Mark does. Fit and finish are equal overall. IMO, those two and Echols are about as good as it gets. Their guns all shoot great, function perfectly and leave nothing on the table.
Very well thought out and executed. Kudos to both of you.
I’m not trying to distract from the OP, but here is a similarly treated Model 70 by Mark Penrod for comparison.

That's sharp.
What’s up with all the wrongside beauties? 🤔😁
I will take either one of them if you wish to discard of them.
They both make exceptional rifles but I do give the upper hand to Gene.
Great-looking (and shooting) rifle.
I see you're using a Javelin bipod-- is it attached to a second sling swivel stud inlet or did Gene install one of the female gunsmith adapters?

It’s got a second female inlet. It’s really slick- has a rare earth plug that makes the stock flush when it’s not installed. The rare earth magnet on the bipod pulls the plug out when you use it. If you install it one direction it is solid, if you turn it 180 degrees it allows you to swing it on moving targets. I’m going to have the gunsmith mounts on all my other rifles now. It’s that good.
It looks like a very slick setup
Great build - shooter too
‘Gra, Ever get to the range yet?
Curious if you were able to duplicate the accuracy of the test target,
I’m curious because < I really like that rifle……………
I’d like to see a picture of the gunsmith adapter in that stock.
I really like your new rig. All business yet classy.

Haven't loaded any rounds yet, so I haven't duplicated the test target load. Did get to the range with 3 factory loads. Not quite as accurate, but minute of deer.
3 Shot groups@100 Yards
Federal Premium Terminal Ascent 136G = .556
Federal Premium Nosler Partition 150G = .934
Barnes Vortex 130G = .628
