categorywise, in your book?

Do you consider it a custom, a prima donna, conventional, it isn't a wildcat by most standards, is it?

I am curious what most of you think of it, or don't.

Category 5 on the fun meter if running them suppressed.

I asked because I am picking up a S & W in the 300/300 this week and I think I am going to like it. Alot.

Gaining popularity now due to the release of the 300 AAC Blackout, which is the same cartridge by AAC with props given to JD Jones. It's what caused me to finally get off my azz and order a suppressor. Been waiting a few weeks shy of 6 months now and expect my stamp any day now.

Brass is not too easy to create from 223, and it's backordered like everything else is. I have 1000 cases and am expecting 2000 more that I ordered in December.

The AR will be fun with 220 Gr subsonic loads suppressed as well as lighter HPBT bullets supersonic. It should be an effective deer round with 110 Gr TTSX's.

Bolt guns and single shot rifles are now being factory-made for the Blackout round.

I've got the S&W M&P -15 in .300 Whisper. Got it about a year ago.
Absolutely Love mine, & it shoots 1" 5-shot groups @ 100 yards even with the cheap Remington Factory Ammo. I've killed several feral hogs at the ranch with it. Most of my shots have been under 100 yards & puts them down immediately.

Haven't shot a deer with it yet, but I'm still waiting on my suppressor also. It's legal now in TX to shoot any game animal or Varmit while using a suppressor.

The Subsonic Ammo shoots about 6" high in my rifle when sighted in with the 115gr ammo. So far, mine has fed every kind of ammo I've tried without a hitch.

It sounds like every bit the gun I hoped it would be. Can any of you tell me the advantage of shooting with vs without, the suppressor on this particular gun? I am 100% un/inexperienced with them.

Shooting anything suppressed is better than without.
The whisper or blackout are really fun with subs/suppressed. My whisper bolt gun was almost mouse fart quiet. My AR in blackout is a little louder with subs but still very quiet.

I would suggest not getting either unless you plan to shoot subs suppressed. The supers are sorta "what's the point". There are better supersonic options out there in 30 cal.

There will be opinions either way. I have had both but these cartridges are niche cartridges IME. I sold the bolt gun but kept the AR cause it makes me smile when I get trigger time with it.

The dang things are deer killers as well. We have shot several and a bunch of pigs with whispers. It is amazing how well 1050 fps heavy bullets kill stuff.

Its been around 12 or so years since I played with an AR in 300 Whisper but deer didnt like the 125 grain Nosler BT and a charge of H-110.

Not disputing your statement, I will admit readily up front that I am not knowledgable enough to do so, however I am curious what your thoughts are on "there are rounds are out there that are better in 30 cal...?"

What rounds do you recommend as better? I am old enough to know when to shut up and listen.

Also, is it correct that the magazines of the 5.56/223 will work safely with the 300 rounds?

That is correct.

A year ago I would have said it was a fad, but the blackout has exploded in popularity.

Lots of rifles are being put together in the name of a *wife gun or kid gun. Ha! It's a great excuse to get one.

And just for clarification, the original 300 Whisper was based on a necked up 221 Fireball, not the 223 as is the blackout. Also the whisper is still considered a wildcat.

The only important thing since you have one coming, is you will find out if you like it or not. It started as a wildcat, as do most rounds. Its much less of one now since factory ammo is there.

Its a special purpose round.

Bottom line, if you feel the need for it, or enjoy it, thats all that matters.

I've had a barrel and dies for almost a year now, been waiting on trust paperwork etc... and to get a suppressor plus for AR parts to go back to normal pricing, I'm in no hurry so I refuse to pay silly pricing.

Are there special requirements that need to be met for the stamp? I haven't ever considered it but I am now.

The main requirement is that you are not a felon.
Secondly, make sure cans are legal to own in your state.

Naturally, Minnesota, where I live, is one of the few states that won't allow them. So much for that idea!

It is still based off the 221 fireball. There is just more 223 brass out there. It is easier to lop 223 cases off at the shoulder and neck them down than neck up 221 cases.
