Hey guys. New to the site. Cool stuff. Just picked up an absolute beauty, and I shore hope I'm right. I believe it to be an 1899 Deluxe 250-3000 Takedown. Barrel simply states 250-3000. I've also had an EG in the past, and that rifle had Savage 99 on top of the receiver this one does not. 22" barrel (beautiful). Perch belly stock.(Checkering immaculate). Wild Indian stamp in butt plate steel. Brass cartridge counter. Numbers from forearm match receiver 206045. Bluing is still above +85% with slight wear on the corners of the receiver. No rust. I even got an ancient canvas takedown case and a box of Remington Kleanbore. I checked the aging site, and it has the date 1918/1919. If I could figure out how to upload pics, I'd post some of the 22 I just took. This gun set me back a few nickels, but she's a beauty. Does my run-down sound right and add up?

These are the pictures. Just curios about the perch belly stock you mentioned in your first post. This rifle is NOT a perch belly. I think that it is safe to say that what you have is a Savage 99G in .250-3000, and in very nice condition.

Sorry about that. I thought that the extended checkering on the pistol grip was the perch belly style. Bad info on my part. I had an Eg in the past, and it said savage 99 on the top of the receiver. This one doesn't. Should I be concerned?

not a 1899 dlux as Mike stated, but a beautiful rifle all the same. Pic of a 1899 delux (1915) on bottom.

Gotcha. Now I see the perch belly stock. It fattens out behind the pistol grip and tapers back at the butt forming a belly. Got it.

You are not out of the ballpark at $950. It is a very desirable rifle in a classic caliber! Not a steal, but just look at what they are getting for these on the internet. Check closed auctions on Gunbroker, prices have been pushed to crazy levels on some of them. In 5 years you will think you stole it!

Welcome to the forum. For a 99G in .250 in this condition, you did well. It's a beautiful rifle, and you'll enjoy shooting this caliber.

I paid $900 for a G in .300 but it came with a Lyman 29 1/2. it was also minty but had an issue with the butt plate being replaced with the black plastic/rubber one. The serial number was still legible in the butt but some shaving had been done to even it out. i'd say you did OK.

Keep looking and steal one later. then play the average price game in your head, it will help you justify just about any purchase!! LOL!!

What you have is an 1899 Deluxe Takedown. Some would call yours a transitional model between the 1899 Deluxe and the 'G', but yours is an 1899 Deluxe as the earliest known 'G' didn't start until serial number range 236,6XX. Somewhere between serial number 193,000 and 194,000, they dropped the checkered trigger and perch belly stock, and then somewhere along the line, they started stamping 'Model 1899' on the receiver ring, as some of the early 'G's have this stamping. I'm not sure if anyone has numbers on when the 'Model 1899' started showing up on the ring, but if they do, maybe they will chime in. Very nice rifle and a pretty good price to boot!!!

Now I think I'm back on track. That's the same info that I came up with before I purchased. I misunderstood the perch belly concept. This gun does not have Savage 99 on the top as my former 50's EG did. Am I wrong in thinking an 1899 Deluxe Takedown is more valuable than a G?

If you want to get your money back out of it,list it here for $950.I would be shocked if it didn't sell within 48 hours.

I guess I wouldn't say that one is more or less valuable than the other, as they are pretty much the same rifle. The 1899 Deluxe Takedown was only offered in the .250-3000 caliber, and when they advanced to the Model 'G', it was offered in all the other calibers available for the Model 99 at that time. The earlier 1899 Deluxes with the cross-checked trigger and perch-belly stocks do bring more. And if you really are worried that you spent too much, I would gladly take it off your hands.

Beautiful rifle cmshoot, really. Am not a vet at these 99's either, but i think you did fine for 950 all in all - shoot, it's a take down .250 99G with few extra's thrown in, and it looks sharp!

IMO, when it comes to internet buy/auctions, one is looking either for the "deals", or the "willing to pay a little more possibly" for something special you want. No shame in that.
