It's a 250/3000. Serial #7051XX. What model is it? When was it made? Value? Was it factory drilled and tapped? I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to 99s.

Thanks,
Rob
Rob,

the rifle is a "EG" model manufactured in 1953. If the "Savage" stamping is visible on the left side of the front mount it is factory D/T if not then it was done after market [there was a serial number range that were factory D/T, IIRC].

Value? Where are you in N.A. or in Japan? Some of my Japanese hunting friends on the island of Shikoku would value that rifle rather highly! wink
I wish I could have it here in Japan!

Appears that it was drilled and tapped outside the factory. Oh well. Still a dang nice looking .250, which is something I've been wanting for a long time. Also, what kind of sight base is that? I'll be needing to find a replacement slide for it. Any ideas as to US value? I probably overpaid for it, but I don't care crazy
It looks like a Williams receiver sight base.

Rod
I wonder what the value would be in Japan... confused I assume you don't have it over there with you?
The base is for a Williams FoolProof sight - the slide is available from the Williams Gun Sight Co's parts dept @ about 50% the cost of an entire FP sight.

They don't really have many rifles here. Pretty much shotguns only. Very restrictive gun laws. The only shooting I get to do is skeet on Sundays. The only gun I have here is a skeet gun that stays locked up at the club. frown

You might also be interested to know that the scope mount is an early Redfield and the hole spacing on the receiver ring is unique. You won't be able to put a different set of mounts on it but you shouldn't really need to.
Kinda looks like a bit of wood was removed to fit that rear site. Shouldn't be, but looks like it.

Glad I kept a few of them old Redfield bases Mike...!!! grin grin grin

That's good to know, as I was planning on replacing that. Guess I'll just replace the scope.
And I'm gonna sand the stock down real smooth so I can paint it black. Then I'm gonna chop the barrel down to 14.5 inches and weld a flashider and bayonet lug on it. I've got a 6.5-20x50 Tasco so I'm gonna buy some extra high see through rings for it. And I've got a compass for the stock...should I put it in the comb or on the side? I was considering having it chrome plated, but that might be a little too showy....maybe nickel? It's gonna be cool when I get done with it!!!
That bayonet lug might not go well in Japan wink
