If the "Savage" stamping is visible on the left side of the front mount it is factory D/T if not then it was done after market [there was a serial number range that were factory D/T, IIRC]. Value? Still a dang nice looking .250, which is something I've been wanting for a long time. Also, what kind of sight base is that? I'll be needing to find a replacement slide for it. Any ideas as to US value? I probably overpaid for it, but I don't care Last edited by bufaf; 04/27/12.

The only gun I have here is a skeet gun that stays locked up at the club.

Kaleefornya	You might also be interested to know that the scope mount is an early Redfield and the hole spacing on the receiver ring is unique. You won't be able to put a different set of mounts on it but you shouldn't really need to.

Glad I kept a few of them old Redfield bases Mike...!!! All said, the Savage 99 is a genius of a rifle. Then I'm gonna chop the barrel down to 14.5 inches and weld a flashider and bayonet lug on it. I've got a 6.5-20x50 Tasco so I'm gonna buy some extra high see through rings for it. And I've got a compass for the stock...should I put it in the comb or on the side? I was considering having it chrome plated, but that might be a little too showy....maybe nickel? It's gonna be cool when I get done with it!!!
