Hi,
Do any of you guys know if Savage ever drilled and tapped any of the later model EG's at the factory? I've been looking recently and can't find any, but thought I had seen one that was factory tapped in the past.

YES THEY DID DRILL AND TAP EGS, AROUND 800,000 SERIAL NUMBER I BELIEVE....ONE OF THE MORE EDUCATED GUYS HERE WILL CHIME IN. I HAVE A 308 EG THAT IS FACTORY DRILLED AND TAPPED. LENNY
There was an early run of EGs that were drilled and tapped. After the "F" arrived all the 99s were D/T. Here's a late one in the 900,000s.
the give-away for factory D&T is the Savage 99 receiver roll stamp is moved around to the left to avoid the drilling.
Few early batches in the 500,000's and then everything higher than... umm... 750,000? They are out there, just not common.
I'll guess there to only be 30,000 to 40,000 factory drilled EG's. They are in part of the 7xx,xxx and all of the 9xx,xxx serial range.
I have a 358 EG that is drilled and tapped in the 910,XXX range.

I hope you shoot pigs with it...
Thanks a lot guys. I'll keep looking to see if I can find one. I've got a few different tapped F's and I've got one EG with no holes and love the gun. I saw a .358 EG on GB a little while ago. Didn't look that closely at it to see if it was tapped because it was bid way, way up.
All the Winchester chambered EG,s were factory drilled and tapped. Don
Yep EGs in Win. Calibers will be sky high if the condition is there. Safe to say all EGs in 243,308,358 will be d/t.

I have a 250-3000 serial # 533XXX roll stamped on the left side factory drilled and tapped
Starting in 1957 the EG was drilled and tapped. Made from 1935 to 1960.

That's what Murray's says. In reality the EG started being consistently drilled and tapped late 1954 or early 1955.
Makes sense now that you don't see many that way. I don't care what caliber, I'd just like to find one with factory holes. I love open site rifles and I really like the EG's and Featherweights but my eyes work better with glass now. All my featherweights are of course D/Ted.
