I just dipped a toe in the water. Stopped in Bass Pro yesterday. They had the $799 Franchi Momentum on sale for $599. The display model pistol grip end cap came unglued so they dropped the price to $509. A couple drops of glue later and now you'd never know. The adjustable trigger is about 2.5 lbs and has no take up. The bolt only lifts to level to pull it back. The factory included test target measures 0.91" with Hornady 165 gr FTX ammo. I'd like to hear from all you 350L users on which rifle you have and how you like the caliber.

Just returned returned from the range after shooting my new 350L. Back in December I took a remington LH 700 cdl to Shaw barrels to be rebarreled to 350L. It took them 6 months but I am very happy with the results. I got a 22in. stainless remington heavy sporter 1 in 16 twist. Shot 3 3 shot groups this morning. 1.25" 3/8" and 3/4" @100 yds. The load was 26.5 gr. of IMR 4227 in Starline brass CCI 400 primer and 165 gr. Hornady FTX.

350L is great, but has some quirks if handloading.

I've had a CVA and Ruger. Kept the CVA and really like it. At that price, I'd give that Franchi a try

This summer I've been playing with an AR upper I built using a Shaw Custom barrel (all I could find at the time) and an MGM barrel for my Encore. Both shoot real well and I'm surprised that the Shaw on the AR shoots a little better than the MGM (but in all fairness I've been mostly working with the AR). I too decided on the Hornady 165 FTX and it shoots great but recently someone claims the terminal performance of the FTX's isn't very good! Figures since I loaded up on 400 of them while I could find em. I like this round so much I'm getting another AR barrel to replace one of the many 223 Wylde barreled uppers I've got. The biggest problems I see with this round is the lack of accessories (bore guides, jags that fit snugly instead of the jags sized for multiple calibers). I'm looking for a 35 cal. jag that I can turn down to fit my barrels tightly. All in all if your hunting and shooting under 200 yards this round is the cats ass, the bee's knees and the moths balls!!
Posted By: WPAHunter50 Re: 350 Legend - 10/03/22
I was hesitant on the Shaw barrel as well. Mainly due to things I have read on this forum. But now that I see how well it shoots I'm satisfied. I will say that they are very poor when it comes to communicating with the customer.
Posted By: mjbgalt Re: 350 Legend - 10/03/22
Yes. Extremely bad on communication but good barrels.

I bought a 350L upper from Bear Creek, hope to shoot it in a couple of days, I mounted a Romero #4 red dot on it!

I too just got a 350L upper from BCA and it shot great!
Posted By: Seafire Re: 350 Legend - 10/04/22
I got a Savage Axis on close out at Walmart....and promptly rebarreled it to a 17 Fireball, with the same 18 inch barrel length, in a heavy magnum contour....

I have an AR that shoots well but there were a couple of quirks with it. It is undergassed with the cheap Winchester 45g fmj load. When loading I had problems with bullets setting back on the feed ramps even with a lot of crimp. I finally went to h4198 which gives me a high load density so the bullet doesn't set back. I get good velocity and accuracy and it's temp stable. I'm using the 170g interlock. I've also ran some 147g xtps fir varmint loads. The 170s are going a bit over 2200 from my 16" barrel.

Midway has Federal 180 gr Non-Typical ammo on sale for $26 and free shipping. Ordered four boxes.

Don't see free shipping today? $24. a box though

I bought a Ruger AR-556 for my daughter. She really likes the rifle and it is plenty accurate with handloads. My only complaint would be that the cartridge does not produce a large wound channel and blood trails are minimal or non-existent. I encourage her to intentionally aim for shoulders.

The 350 isn't producing blood trails?

I started a few years ago with a BCA upper on my AR-15. Accurate and deadly on deer. I bought a lefty Savage Axis this year. Also accurate. Brother and friend both purchased Ruger American Ranch Rifles in 350 after seeing my results. Here is a 50 yard 4 shot group with my reloads.

What ammo? I've heard lots say stick with 170-180 gr bullets. They say the 150 gr bullets aren't good.

It was free shipping on $49. I see they did drop the price $2.00 today. Even with shipping the same four boxes I bought with free are cheaper OTD today.

I shot my ar 350 legend, I was surprised that shot the full metal jacket Winchester 145 grains slick as could be no jams I was trying to move the site 4 inches to the right at 50, and had to leave. Will go back next week with some 180 grains and finish the sight in. If the Romeo #4 is not jacked up!
Posted By: JCMCUBIC Re: 350 Legend - 10/08/22
I've been playing with a 16" BCA 350 upper and have really been impressed with it. First sighting in scope and then just burning ammo, the cheap 145 fmj ammo I picked up cheap shot tight groups. Fed it some Hornaday 170 gr American Whitetail ammo and it shot well....so I'm going to give that a try this year. Very neat little round. I'm not an AR guy, more of a bolt gun junkie, but I like the little 350 AR.

That said, I'll probably end up with a bolt gun in it as well. I saw JES has " *** Testing the new 350 LEGEND***" posted on his site. Anyone had a .223 rebored?
Posted By: Pappy348 Re: 350 Legend - 10/08/22
I seem to recall someone here saying they’d done that. Good option for someone with a spare rifle on hand. Have considered having my Mini 14 converted, but already have too many deer rifles, and $1000 would buy a pretty nice factory .350 like a carbon Howa.

That’s been my experience with this caliber.

The 170 Hornady doesn’t seem to expand much. They shoot lights out in mine and a friend has killed a couple deer and quite a few hogs with his and the 170. I may go to the 165 FTX and see if they open a little more.

Bear Creek Ballistics 160gr looks like a great bullet also.

Haven't shot it but there is a lot to like about it. Not that the 350 kicks but it's got the same soft recoil pad as their shot guns. I love the adjustable trigger and its factory set perfectly. It's got a spiral fluted bolt and a larger than average bolt handle. It's got the shortest lift to open bolt I've ever seen. It uses the Remington 700 scope mount bolt pattern and comes with two piece multi slot bases installed. Detachable mag with the release in the trigger guard. Threaded barrel, one day I may want a can on it. Franchi really did their homework.

I have an old Tikka 223 that could take a trip to JES. The velocity the 350 legend makes is really good for barrel length ?
Posted By: SuperSeal110 Re: 350 Legend - 10/11/22
I picked up a CVA Cascade SB in .350L. Mounted a VX5 2-10 on it, but haven't had a chance to shoot it, yet.

Out of everything I've handled, the Cascade SB felt the best in my hands.

That's a good price for the Franchi.

I have the 350L in both the AR platform and in a Savage Axis. I got the Axis without the Accutrigger and installed an M-carbo trigger kit in it and it is a sweet little rifle. Going to be my go to rifle for a while but not this year. I made a personal commitment to only go with a muzzleloader or one of my old lever guns this year.
BTW the one in the AR platform I may just put on the block to sell. Its like new and pretty much nothing more than enough shots to sight it in. I got it to go deer hunting in Ohio but the dear soul that I was going to hunt with up and died! I'll likely let it go at a good price if anyone is interested.

Franchi makes two models in 350.

One is a FDE tan stock and blued metal- $599 2 pc. bases. #41562

Momentum Elite is camo and Cerakote (2 color combinations were made) $799 with 1 pc. Picatinny rail. #41657, #41655

I shot mine Monday. Shoots my handloads all touching or better at 100. I got the camo one with True Timber Strata camo and midnight bronze Cerakote. #41655

This will be my mothers third season using a Ruger Ranch in 350L here in Ohio. It’s wearing a 3-9 trijicon and shooting Winchester 150gr deer season xp factory rounds. Rifle shoots moa and his easy on her shoulder compared to her 20ga slug gun. She’s taken one mature buck at a little over 100yards. Lung shot and died within sight. Plan to start my son out next year with a 350L.

A vintage weatherby 223 took a ride to JES in my case.

She's a shooter!! Shot a 100 yard, 3/4" group with Herter's 180 gr sp and 1-1/8" with Federal Non Typical 180 gr sp.

Shot a big 6 point this morning with my Mossberg 350 legend. Cull buck.
Blew his lungs out. Ran maybe 40 yds in a semi circle.
Pretty impressive. No recoil. Low rifle report

Lots of Iowa deer hunters have set their slug guns up for the .350L and .450BM. Many complaints about no blood trail with the .350L but the .450BM lets the blood out nicely. As someone who has been killing whitetails with a .357 Maximum out of a single shot pistol in Iowa for at least 15 seasons, I have to wonder about either bullet selection or shot placement for the guys complaining about the .350L not being sufficient and not leaving blood trails. Granted, I shoot my own 190 gr. LFNGC cast bullets for most of my deer, though the last three have fallen to 180 gr. Speer Hot Cors, but I've never had a problem with a blood trail. I can think of four off the top of my head that dropped in their tracks, literally, and one of those was at 182 yards, lasered. I keep hoping to "catch" a cast bullet so I can see what the bullet looks like, but I have yet to have a bullet NOT pass through. I shoot from a ground blind with a rest, farthest deer was 227 yards. Left a blood trail a blind man could follow for about 60 yards across a plowed cornfield with snow. I watched it drop, but it was like someone had painted the snow red. Maybe the 150 gr. option is giving bad results? I can't imagine a 170 or 180 gr. not leaving a great blood trail.

All the complaints I've read about are with 150 gr bullets. Don't recall hearing of any issues with 170 gr or 180 gr bullets.

Considering many 35 Remington loads don't make 1900 fps with a 200 grain bullet out of the average Marlins 20 inch barrel that sure seems good enough.

A well set up rifled 12 gauge will kill a lot deader just as far as a 350/450 popgun.

I just can’t take the recoil of a 12 gauge with slugs any more. Gives me a sore neck and a headache. Ive killed my share with the big 12, but I can kill em just as dead with my 350 and not injure my arthritic neck. Getting old ain’t for sissies!

How does something get "deader" than dead?
Posted By: Boarmaster123 Re: 350 Legend - 11/14/22
Well I killed deer for decades with my 12 gauge sluggun. Thats because it was what was allowed. I now use a bolt gun in 350 L. But I sure cant argue that my slugs left a heck of a blood trail.

I'd be hesitant on the "just as far".

The recoil differential is big.

The price per round differential is big.

If someone is going to argue on the "just as far", they really need to figure the cost per round in if they're going to PUSH the distance limits of the cartridge because they'll need the time spent verifying.

Dead is as good as deader.

I hear ya, the older I get the more they hurt!! I hunted with the lead foster type 12 ga slugs for many years but haven't in a very long time. I probably should sell some off, bet I have over 200 rounds still.
Posted By: ElkHtrNevada Re: 350 Legend - 11/14/22
A Browning bolt action 12 with a scope and the right sabots is an easy 200 yard outfit.
Posted By: StoneCutter Re: 350 Legend - 11/15/22
I am so done with the 12ga slugs. They changed the laws here about two years ago. I ordered a 350L barrel for my Encore from E. Arthur Brown Co. back in March. I finally got it in September. I think the hold up was waiting for the walnut forend. I got it all sighted in a few weeks ago and it shoots really tight groups. I took it back to the range last weekend just to practice and recheck zero. I love this thing, it's sweet.

I decided to go with the Win Deer Season XP 150 gr. Some of you have mentioned about a lack of blood trail which has me a little concerned, but after watching this video I think I'm OK. Gun season opens here on the 26th. I'll let you know what kind of blood trail I get if I get the chance to shoot something with it.

Took the lefty Savage Axis out today and shot some 3 shot 100 yard groups.
