I tried a few times with no luck. Thinking about trying again the rut is coming.
Code blue estrous
It worked for roundoak.
Never seemed to do cshit, but maybe I didn’t know what I was doing
Is that for sitting in blind with variable wind? You must study area and wind then hunt.
Never seen it work
I've used Tink's my whole life, and have seen it work. I believe it depends on how pressured your area is, plus other factors. When things are right, a buck will follow a drag rag scent trail until something spooks him.
I think scents work but never seen it work on mature deer.

I’ve killed a hand full of deer using them never anything older than 2. I’ve also seen mature deer spook from scent.
I hang a open bottle in a tree downwind

...my first thought as well. I doubt if I'll ever be able to not grin at any passing mention of Tink's 69.
I've used scents for years starting with Pete Rickard's Original Indian Buck Lure nearly 50 yrs. ago. Only had it work one time when the does were visibly hot, it attracted a group of does and later on a 7pt. buck came in right at dusk. He was trailing the scent left by the does.
My ol man swore by that Indian buck lure
I have an old plastic film cannister filled with cloth and a good dose of Tinks soaked into it with a pc of string taped to the cannister. I don't use it much but will if sitting watching a game trail.

I was doing this very thing this fall when this fellow appeared and was headed right to the scent.

Nice buck👍👍
I used to be into scents seriously. I will say that two of my biggest bow kills were bucks following a scent drag with tarsal gland . On the other hand, I've seen several deer run away like scalded cats when they hit a scent line.

Back in 2001, I acquired my farm. We closed the deal 9/13/2001, two days after 9/11. I had never hunted it before. I decided to pair my kit down to the minimum and hunt as simply as possible. I came away that year with a buck and a doe, and only stopped because I was out of freezer space. I've never gone back.

Can somebody tell me the story of RoundOak? I'm unfamiliar.
Not sure which one I want to try Tink's, Code Blue, Trails End 307, Black Widow, Buck Bomb and a few others. Some swear by them some say a waste of money. If I don't have luck with it this year not going yo buy it anymore.
IMHO!

It's not like Magic in a can, but on some occasions and in the right place at the right time it has worked for us over the past several years.

Several variables to consider like wind and set up and My Son and I also thinks it makes a great cover scent especially Bow hunting when you need to get up close and personal. IMO!

Funny story- I’ve posted this one before.

I climbed up my tree one morning and forgot to put out the Code Blue Estrus. I grabbed the bottle and dribbled a few drops to the ground. I bet it wasn’t 30 seconds and I hear a buck grunting and leaves crunching. An 8pt came right to the bottom of my tree sniffing the scent. That bottle was at least five years old.

I take the lid off and set it on the ground. I’ve had doe come stick their nose right to the bottle.

Been busted many times by using scents. I quit using them years ago. Best scent = no scent.

I used to be into scents seriously as well. They work, I have certainly killed my share of Bucks using them. But I haven't used them for many years now. I have had Young bucks and smaller Bucks follow a drag line right to the base of my tree. But I have never fooled a Big old mature Buck with a scent. My Top Five Biggest Bucks have been killed without the use of any scents.

Imo, The Big boys got big because they are very wise to scents. They know the difference, They use the wind and thermals with almost every step. It seems every decision they make is with the wind in there advantage. Yes they do get stupid in the peak of the rut. But the rest of the time they are very clever.

If a company would come up with a formula that would change the direction of the wind when you opened it, I would be there best customer. Jmo, from my own experiences. Ymmv.

I used Tinks 69. Works well, all season. It will bring them in during the rut. And will distract them enough in late season, even when being driven by dogs, to bring them to a stop to throw their nose in the air.

If you mean the story of roundoak in general, you'll need to research that yourself. Mostly what you need to know...

In October I started a thread on Tink's and there were some interesting comments, pro and con. I happen to be a con man and will be using it this season.

I soak a round cotton makeup pad and apply it to the bottom of my LaCrosse Iceman's and walk to my stand. Time and time again, deer have followed the scent trail.

Rather ironic that he misused the word con as a foreshadowing, eh?

Thats some pretty funny $hit right there.
They work!!!!

Ol man Tink is a multi gazillionair because his stuff attracted YOU to buy it.
I wonder how they extract still steamin buck semen 🤷‍♂️
I have watched bucks come in on a line across an alfalfa field on a road-kill tarsal drag I laid down, and huff a scent wick dunked in Special Golden Estrus with their eyes closed when it was hung on a limb of the same tree I was sitting in with my bow.
Been using vanilla flavoring on a drag rag, spray down with it, pour few drops base of my tree, and few more also, etc. I mix it with distilled water 50/50 and only use one brand called Happy Home....has no alcohol and can buy it at the farmers market near home. Only scent I have used for 40+ years and have killed many deer with it. Have never seen a deer become alarmed while using it. Closest kill ever had with it was a nice 8 pt with a bow at base of my tree that followed my scent trail....shot him thru top of his neck and arrow was sticking in the ground....ran about 30 yds.

Ha Ha!
No scents, no corn, no food plots, no cameras, no tree stands.

I had a friend years ago, that had used it for years like that, and had several bucks follow the scent trail in.

🧐
Read a couple of articles this morning about using Pure Vanilla Extract as a scent bomb to cover your scent, don't sound like a bad idea seems to get results. While shopping at Walmart today I bought a small bottle of Watkins going to make me a couple scent bombs and hang by my stand tomorrow morning don't hurt a try .
I have little doubt it can work, but I wouldn’t hang my hat on it. Been years since I tried any. Now there’s a trend towards banning the real stuff to help stop the spread of CWD, and certified CWD-free brands exist apparently. Makes sense as an attractant, but I wouldn’t count on anything ad a real cover. Play the wind….

I blew grunt calls for years and as far as I know only called in one. This year, I blew a few grunts and shook a bush, and in no time had a buck come in all fired up for a fight. He got one…

It’s all fun stuff.

Hunt in a blind and break all the wind you want.

This!!! We have been known to do a little rattling on occasions for the excitement.
Evercalm has worked better than Tink's for me, the yellow not the Evercalm Estrous.
I go back and forth. But mostly in the "no scent" camp. I have for sure had bucks come up to the scent, following the drag rag trail of Tink's. But does really don't like Tink's and the spook from it in my experience.
I've drug it around and had successful encounters with small bucks. I've seen bigger bucks whirl and haul azz too. Does hate it for the most part. Only scent I use is those fresh earth scent wafers. Those suckers are awesome. Clip one on and head to the tree. I've had better luck with my own urine whizzing out of my tree stand. I don't hunt over corn. I bought a lone wolf and some sticks and actually enjoy sitting in new areas. I'm a traditional bow hunter. Which translates to : he who bring home nothing lol. I normally kill a few a year with my widow, but man is it awesome when you stick a good buck with a recurve.

This. 1000x, this.

It cost me a crack at the biggest buck I've ever seen in the wild to this day. I was archery hunting in SE Kansas and had that szchit out – rather than continuing on the path that would have led them within 20 yards, the doe got a noseful of the scent, snorted and turned tail for parts unknown (with him in tow). That was 15-16 years ago and also the last time I've ever bothered with it – it still haunts me.
To be honest. If your hunting an area that a buck is cruising, there's enough doe pizz on the ground and everywhere the way it is. I do think the vanilla thing has some truth to it, but I've never tried it. Skane, I too my friend have screwed the pooch on a giant in Northwest Oklahoma because I had that stuff on a scent drag.
The vanilla thing - I remember Dan Fitzgerald talking it up back in the 80/90's. He used to sell "Vanilla Killa" as a scent/attractant. Used to rent his videos all the time as a youth.

I've always heard vanilla instant pudding mix dumbed on the ground. "They" say deer love that stuff.
I tried the vanilla scent bomb last Sunday hung it about 80 yards on the way to my stand on the edge of woods and pipeline sure enough around 9:50 a.m. a yearling spike was sniffing the air a few feet from the scent bomb. Not what I was wanting but hey it proved that the spike was curious and liking the smell. Will try it again tomorrow morning same stand. Monday will hunt a different stand and will use it there too.

;
I only had 1 good/positive experience with the stuff over the years. I do use ammonia with way more positive results.

Same. Occasionally hunt a stand, but 90% of the time I'm sitting on the ground somewhere or still hunting. Always try to hunt with the wind in my favor.
I have had dramatic results from doe in heat scent.

But like others have started……. only dinks.

But dinks are delicious ……and dumping dinks ……you save on taxidermy fees.

It’s yuge!

Dinks is good eating for sure. I used both my buck tags this year on young deer and that was fine. Now I’m looking for a doe to close out my season.
Only used it last week of Octocber and first week in Nov which falls in archery season here. Has worked for me on bucks and doe. Golden Estrus.
I've not been a user, but have heard enough anecdotal evidence to believe under certain circumstances scents can give you an edge.

Matter of fact, I just had some doe in estrus scent delivered today. The peak of the rut is long past but I know of a dried water hole which is surrounded by overgrown CRP. The hole is about 30 yards across and some buck(s) has gone crazy along the edge freshly working over 7 scrapes, 2 of which are bathtub size.

I presume at least 1 doe has come into late estrus in the area triggering rutting activity.

I hunted it earlier in the year and passed up 3 smaller bucks waitin' on a biggun.

I'm gonna liberally douse those scrapes and see what happens. 🤷
Was talking to a guy in Pa. that owned a deer farm
He sold breeder bucks to ranches all over the country at some hefty prices
So I figured if I was going to get the real deal it would be here
Up until this point had never had as my luck with it
So I asked him if I could buy some and he told me he quit selling it because the agricultural dept. had gotten involved and it became more hassle than it was worth
So I told him my experience with it and asked if it really worked or sales gimmick?
He smiled and said he figured if a fellow felt like it helped him , use it
I smiled back and said that was along my line of thinking

I also noticed all the bucks had their horns sawed off and asked why
Some huge knobs on top of their heads
He said people were crazy , they would see a huge buck inside the fence and shoot it knowing there was no way to retrieve it so he started cutting the horns down to the skull
He said once , some guys cut the chain on the gate and opened his gates in the middle of the night and let a bunch out and it sounded like a war going on around his property
He said it was almost impossible to round them back up after getting out , he managed to retrieve a few but most escaped or was found in the woods with heads cut off
Took a hell of a loss
Takes all kinds I recon
Kenneth
Years ago after I watched Michigan outdoors and Fred Trost sharyed his sh$t storm about lures, I made a couple of mock scrapes and pissed in them , on a friend's deer farm

The next morning the place was tore right up from deer scraping!
Since then I have made mock scrapes and used my own urine as attractant- haven't been horned yet but I have killed some bucks at pretty close ( under 20 yards) range ! LOL
