Well, it was a fun ten days, and day ten was pretty good to me. I made a perfect hit, broadside at 26 yards on this nice 6X6. He made it about 100 yards.
I look forward to this annual solo hunt every year, as it kicks off three straight months of big game hunting, plus there is absolutely nothing like being up close to these bulls this time of year when they are gathering and tending cows, and chasing each other around. Intense, heartbreaking, comical...bow hunting elk is a roller coaster ride. Too much fun!
I've got a couple nice mule deer bucks located, so I may have to....wait I've also got an antelope permit...and a black bear tag. Decisions....;)
Geez
That one's a keeper.
My favorite time of year when the elk are making noise and blowing snot. Up close is great.
Congrats that's a dandy...
Another nice bull! You live a charmed life <G>
Great bull and a heck of a way to begin your season.
Well done, Pat!

The wife has a bull elk rifle permit for the same unit I bow hunt, and she'll be using that rifle....she's been applying for that unit for 16 years, and finally drew the permit.
Heck of a bull Pat - congrats to you and wishing you much luck on the rest of your hunting season. Also looking forward to many more pictures

Either that or "The song remains the same....."
Congrats, Pat. Good start to the season (where's the understatement font when you need it?)
Congrats! You set a high standard, impressive!
The nock was still glowing this morning. I found it just inside the chest cavity on the entry side. The rest of the arrow passed through. I'm thinking when he took off running, the scapula probably sheared it off.
It's amazing what those sharp broadheads will do when placed correctly...
Congrads on a Great Bull, looks like a Slick Trick! all Iv used , since I heard about them here on the Fire years ago! Happy Hunting!
Great bull and a heck of a way to begin your season.

Congrats Pat, what a slammer!
No blue jeans? What the hell?! I'm disappointed in you.
That's another beautiful bull, do your young men have tags as well this year?
Nice! Isn't it fun trying to decide what to hunt next? Hard to beat living in MT.
Nice one. Congrats. Can't wait to see the others that fill the freezer this year.

It looks like you have the perfect combination! Just don’t tell me that they were “6.5 Scenar” tips! memtb
An amazing bull, congrats on getting that close. The rut is the most magical time in the mountains.

No blue jeans? What the hell?! I'm disappointed in you.
I'd been wearing my Wranglers up until the day I killed the bull...they were getting pretty ripe. I did have on my lucky shirt though. My last three bow and arrow bulls have been taken while I was wearing it...;)
Of course I'm superstitious, I'm a former baseball player..;)
Pat, did you call him in?
Pat...YOU SUCK!
Congrats on another good one!

I don't have time for this banter!
I gotta get back to my Dinkathon....
Pat, did you call him in?
No, I killed him on water. They weren't responding much to vocals. That should change in the next week or so. We've got a nice little cold front coming through right now.
You should have seen the one that got away....one of the biggest bulls I've seen. I do have some through the spotter pics though...
You should have seen the one that got away....
LOL, I agree!! Just curious about calling in a big boy like that one, seems like they're usually herding cows and not interested.
Longest thirds I've ever seen, or ever will see...and a horse sized body to boot.
Those thirds are unreal Pat....
How cool would that bull have been if he would have just whaled out from his royals as a 5-point....
Thanks for the pics...
WOW! That bull is something for sure - like you said those 3rds are just unreal. Be great when he passing along some of those genetics, be awesome to see if his offspring sprout those 3rds also.
What a Beast! CONGRATULATIONS Pat.
Longest thirds I've ever seen, or ever will see...and a horse sized body to boot.
UGH!
Wow x 2!
Congrats!
You seem to have a habit of doing this...

The one that got away...holy [bleep]!
Be interesting to see if he gets bigger or smaller next year,if he makes it.
Congrats on another fine bull That will really make your year.
Holy Shiite! Those thirds look like they're 3 feet long.
Looks like you know where to look for them! Great bulls! I don't archery hunt anymore, but Slick Trick is all that I used for the last several years that I hunted with a bow. Killed deer just fine.
Holy Shiite! Those thirds look like they're 3 feet long.
I was thinking the same. The left one has to be 30"+!!
Congrats on a great bull!
Outstanding Bull, solo too!
Congrats! We have seen the pic and now we need a longer story.
Congratulations Pat. Another fine bull you have.
The Lord has blessed you again.
Take care.
Beautiful bull! Appreciate you sharing. Gets the juices flowing.
Wow...just wow! Luck favors the prepared once again. Big congrats!
Every year.....simply amazing! Congrats!
I hope you can find that monster for the wife so at least she can show you up....
Great bull Pat, glad to see that you were able to harvest a nice bull.
Dandy bull!!! With a rifle tag in the house, I have a feeling the "one that got away" might not keep that status...
Longest thirds I've ever seen, or ever will see...and a horse sized body to boot.
Holy hemorrhoid, Patrick!!!
Fingers crossed your better half gets a crack at him.
He’s a beaut for sure. General unit or draw permit unit?

Draw unit with good first choice odds.

I knew a guy who collected big mule deer bucks. He lived over the hill from where I lived near Ennis, Montana...I spent a lot of time at his place, gawking at giant bucks...
That is me, but I've never been on Instagram...?
If my memory is correct, that buck came from Idaho, scored over 260" non typical, and had 14" matching drop tines. That photo is circa 1987.
I'll be hunting south west of you scenarshooter and could not draw a bull tag again this year but did get a cow tag.
Enjoy those memories buddy as you deserve them.
Another nice bull Pat. Thanks for posting up some pics.
