Pardon my ignorance but would one of these be a good deal @ $950 if you were wanting a standard A2 configuration?

I don't know, but I think the A2 has a fixed carry handle.

The flat-top with detachable carry handle puts it in the A3 or A4 category, I believe.
Posted By: viking Re: FN AR-15 Question - 09/08/17
Yes it is, I paid 1149 for my Colt a4. They told me the FN is a little more expensive.

In the ad from Flave's link:

PRIMARY FEATURES
Semi-automatic only

A2-style front sight, removable carrying handle with rear sight

I'm not up on the nomenclature really.

But just want this type of configuration.

For serious?

Just before MAGA. That and the Colt a4 was hard to find, I guess they don't crank out as many.

Yes. FN builds a good gun.

Thank you all.

Dave,

Yes, FN builds good AR's. For an old style, no BS A2 style rig I don't think you can do better than an FN.

Agreed

Yes, & everyone should have an A2.

FN is good stuff.

I'm pretty sure FN builds all of the Military AR's now. Good as a Colt or better IMO.
Posted By: viking Re: FN AR-15 Question - 09/08/17
I see the FN comes with a metal magazine, my Colt came with a Magpul.
Posted By: local_dirt Re: FN AR-15 Question - 09/08/17
That rifle for $950, scoped, could be a beautiful thing.

No flies on the FN's.

I don't think you could go wrong on it. I noticed it's an HBAR. I've got a 20" HBAR frankenbuild upper. A little weighty, but not that bad. Really nice to shoot..
Posted By: TWR Re: FN AR-15 Question - 09/08/17
I don't know, a chrome lined HBAR? Carry the weight for less than stellar accuracy. I'd prefer the gov't profile but it all depends on your use I guess.
Posted By: deflave Re: FN AR-15 Question - 09/08/17
This one does not feel like an HBAR. I could pop the handguards and see I guess.

I just want it for shooting offhand with my son. I think my brother just gave $1,150 for an A4 and that's what I wanted. But if the FN is comparable I may as well get this one.

Thanks again.

If I wanted that type of configuration I would buy this FN, I don't think you can go wrong with the gun.
Posted By: MontanaMarine Re: FN AR-15 Question - 09/08/17
That extra weight of the HBAR will be great for offhand shooting. For me anyway, I like the steadying effect.
Posted By: TWR Re: FN AR-15 Question - 09/08/17
I've heard that before but when a buddy switched his 20" HBAR out for a gov't profile, we both thought the gun handled much better.

If one was going to suffer a heavy barrel, I'd recommend a match grade barrel so at least it would shoot.

But there's lots of folks who like things I don't.

Correct. I believe they are calling them A-4's. It's the "new" thing. 20" government profile with removable handle. An FN for $950 ?? I'd suck it up fast as long as it looks good and doesn't appear to be beat up.

Here is a link on AR-15.com talking about Colt's version. I'm not sure who come up with it first and who copied who.

Wanting to piggyback on TraDave's awesome cool FN15 thread.

I have one of these coming this week and a MaTech rear sight. Have ten Brownell's 30 rnd tac mags, a chitpot full of 223 and 5.56 ammo.

Say I throw a scope on it to test accuracy, with the chrome lined barrel should I figure to see 1.5 MOA or what at 100 yards? Will the trigger be OK? Had a RRA Predator Pursuit before otherwise know nada on the AR. Not sure if I want to scope it or not, depending on my eyesight, had intended to just use an aperture as it's purely meant for utility use. Not going to be dialing for long range.

Wanted an A2? front sight, Colt or FN, available at Whittaker's for layaway and this was it in a price I was willing to go... Did not buy for the Magpul parts but don't mind it for stock and grip
.
Thoughts? Ideas? Insults? Jealous rants? Did I phucqk up? Oh, any cool sling thingys for these?

Looks like my Colt 6920 Magpul version, great guns. Mine has a Daniel Defense A1.5 rear sight which I love and I also like the SL hand guards.

Yes 1.5" should be doable with some loads doing better, some worse. Check out Frank Proctor's Way of the Gun sling. Pretty simple and really light. Should be a great utility gun.
Posted By: MtnBoomer Re: FN AR-15 Question - 12/05/17
Thanks. That sling looks like a winner. Appreciate the info.

1.5-2 MOA for ten rounds with match ammo depending on how you rest it being that you do not have a freefloat handguard.

As stated- Frank's WOTG sling is the one to get.

Yes, not all, but all M16s, and yes they’re better IMO. I wish FN would get the M4 contract.
Posted By: TWR Re: FN AR-15 Question - 12/12/17
I'm pretty sure FN has had the M4 contract for a few years now.
Seems like Remington won the bid but legal battles resulted in 'rebidding and FN won.

As far as better? They are still built to the TDP specs so they should be the same, just different folks putting them together.
Posted By: hh4whiskey Re: FN AR-15 Question - 12/13/17
Problem was, Colt had issues with some tolerance stacking until they supposedly retooled. I only saw an issue with their M4 3-rd burst groups. Nothing else popped up for me, first hand. The FNs just seemed better on inspection, to me. That was years ago that I was involved with the QC end, though.

Merry Christmas to me! Hope to put some rounds thru it over the next few days. Surprisingly lighter than expected and not a single flaw to my eye anywhere.
