Here's the nearly finished restock job on my 1948 FN .270. The rifle is an FI marked C-collar with a pretty beefy barrel. The stock is a B&C Medalist, painted with Krylon stone-finish in charcoal. The sight is a Vortex Sparc II I had laying around. The new stock cut at least a pound off the weight.

The rifle came with a left-handed, uncheckered Monte Carlo that was really heavy and a little crudely styled, but pretty nice wood. It wore an old Weaver 4x in Buehler mounts. The bridge only has one hole drilled and the low rings won't permit most modern scopes, so I'll probably have another hole drilled so I can use Talleys or maybe Warne QDs. The trigger pull was about 7 lbs, but I replaced it with a cut Ruger 77/22 spring, cutting the weight to about 5. I have a lighter one to install later.

The paint has a good texture, but is the hardest to apply I've ever tried. It will run in a heartbeat. I had to sand and re-apply on a couple of spots and they're still not quite right, but I'm probably going to overlay some color and stencil some leaves or dancing girls or something on it.

BTW, the rifle us sitting on my new, 500 pound capacity lawn chair that arrived this morning. Very comfy. They oughta call it the Michael Moore Autograph Model.
