Most of the land around here used to belong to G. Washington and his family. The very first house he owned, a cabin built for him about a mile and a half from here, had become part of a larger house built later. That house, sadly, was damaged so badly in a fire that it had to be knocked down. The current owners live in what used to be, I think, a carriage house.

Lots of Civil War history around here as well. The first time I ever mowed my yard, I found a minie ball stuck in the clay.
