The Krag I previously pictured was an old family gun - my late father and both his brothers got their first deer with it, many moons ago. It stills shoots well, though it has a fairly rough patch of pitting in the bore. After killing a doe with it, I gave it to an uncle, and I think one of his grandsons now has it. They weren't excited when I discussed how to load for it

This is why I don't have a Krag at the moment:



The Ruger .30-40 can take loads that are much heavier than safe in a Krag. At some point I'll acquire another Krag and revisit mild .30-40 loads.
