It's high pressure and heat that eats out a throat.
Cast bullet loads typically provide long barrel life as the cast bullet isn't as hard on a barrel and they operate at lower pressures and temperatures.
I typically don't like extra slow powders as they are more difficult to ignite and you're wasting powder, but if you're happy with the accuracy why not.
