I went cheaper with a Cabelas universal plow on my Razor. I had to jury rig the mounting as it wasn't as universal as they said. I've only used it once and that was only 4" of snow so I can't comment on how well it works. We had a very dry winter.
What's the OP objection to using a winch for a lift? Mine works fine. I did put on a pulley fairlead and a short plow rope to reduce the wear on my expensive winch rope.
