frhunter13 and Bugger,
Been a while, but I am once again researching .45-90 loads- this time for a double rifle due in soon.

Anyhow, this was a fun thread and I have two more comments to make:
Bugger, My Miroku 1886 45-90 td is also one of 501 and labeled as your 1885. The" black powder only" is lawyerese because there is no SAAMI spec for the .45-90.
The Grizzly Cartridge loaded Kodiak 450 grain bullets at 2150 fps do kick a bit, but they are the ticket on Cape buff and other similar big critters. Mine knocked down an ele with a frontal brain shot that did not penetrate the brain; Punch bullets and NF solids finished it off though ( the hunt was for bullet testing, after all ) That Punch was either 430 or 450 grains, but a 400 at 2200 fps will also shoot through most anything.

frhunter13 - Agreed on the .45-90 double - great idea , as you can use .45-70 and .45-90 ammo in it as you like. In fact, the Winchester Supreme .45-70 load with 300 grain Nosler protected point is a superb game load for thin skinned critters - large and small.
