This probably isn't going to end well. Vandergaw may think that the bears now pose no threat to humans, but since he apparently hasn't observed their behavior around other humans at other locations, its all assumptions and no data.

I can easily imagine a bear going to another house and begging for food, and when denied, trying to intimidate the people into compliance. Hell, I've seen this with dogs. A hungry and impatient bear that won't take no for an answer is a recipe for either a dead human or a dead bear.

With predator species, there is wild and there is domesticated, but there really isn't any gray area in between AFAIK. Folks who try to operate in the gray area get chomped.
