Wow.......now that is what I call an informed response. And quite frankly nothing I would dare argue with. Thanks. Something I must confess and didn't clarify is that my question is more to do with possible confrontation with a lion or black bear vs. hunting one. Seems that most everyone else who posted would likely agree with your assessment. I've been leaning towards buying the new 4" Ruger Redhawk in .44 mag. for my hiking gun and for where I will be the only real threats I envision might come from lions or black bears. A 4" GP100 is also being considered but after this read, I'm more inclined to go the Redhawk route. Was hoping to cover both bases (personal protection at home and in the woods) but no gun is right for all things. Just another reason to buy both guns, right?
