I have not used that power GS. I have used that Leupold. Either will be a good scope for you. The GS will definitely be better optically. It is listed as 3.25 inch eye relief. Weavers in my experience have been about at the claimed eye relief.
I think 3.25 inch is enough on a .308 700 though I would prefer not to have much less. I also would really prefer at least 3.5 inches.
Considering that I think I might suggest the VXII after all in this case.
