10yrs ago mint 100 in 284 were bringing 2k. For the 88’s 13.8% of the production was in 284. The Winchester gurus say you can apply that to the 100’s total production of 284’s as well. So rough 39K 88’s were chambered in 284 and roughly 36k were made in 284. 36k might be a little generous, Bert over on Winchester Arms collectors association says it’s closer to 30k. So in the big picture around 70k 284 we’re made. The only other time Winchester ever chambered the 284 again was in early 90’s in classic dbm model 70. Most say only 200 were made. So the 284 is truly a rare bird in any Winchester rifle. Again would I buy I probably not because I prefer a 88 in a 284 myself.
