There was some rumor I heard that Marlin was bought out by Mossberg. I personally don't believe it.
Now after seeing this rifle, it sure does look like a savage. It makes me wonder if Marlin and Savage are not merging or somehow formed an alliance. Just think; Marlin could manufacture a lever for Savage and Savage could manufacture the bolt for Marlin.
Maybe the savage lever will be reminicent of the old model 99 but be chambered for the 30-30, 35 Rem, possibly the 358 win or the 308ME or even the 300 Savage.
This type of partnership would give both companies an entry into a market they currently have no products in. And both companies could concentrate on what they know best.
Although it would more likely be the 336A and 336W that would leave the Marlin line and go to the Savage line re-worked for some cosmetics.
