so, to update i did float the barrel and it had a shiny silver spot where the barrel was contacting the fore end and also a shiny silver spot on the right side of the barrel where also the barrel was contacting the stock. i used a,i believe, 12mm deep well socket wrapped in 60 grit sandpaper to float and smooth her up. now a 100 bill will slide from fore end to action without encumbrances. i've not shot the rifle since but will update on whether this tightened groups up or not.
