We whine about how cruel the Russian justice system is without realizing how ours is based on luxury. We spend tons more money than we should. For instance, why do we keep people in prison for less than 2 years when we could apply corporal punishment once and be done with it? A lot of the people sent to prison were wage earners in their family. How does breaking up and impoverishing an entire family serve justice and taxpayers on the hook for social services?

Remember when cops used to beat up bums and dump them outside their jurisdiction? What did the homeless problem look like then? What does it look like now that cops don't do that?
