I have made a 230 yard shot on a nice doe with 30.30 LE ammo and I was very pleased. My Marlin 336 was made in 1953 and it belonged to my Grandpa. My gun loves the new ammo and I still can't get over the accuracy and killing power of the new round. I have shot a lot of deer with the old gun and I feel like I know what it can do . The new ammo from Hornady humbled me. I swear the wound channel seems similar to that of a 30.06. I actually have 3x9 on the gun. It looks a little silly but it works well and I am used to it. It is my gun of choice during season only staying home to allow my stainless Ruger 30.06 out in foul weather.
