Gotta love the .44 mag. My brother, nephew, best friend and I all carry Rugers. Funny/Good thing is that I handload for all of us, same loads that shoot absolutely fantastic in my Redhawk, shoot just as well from my brother's Vaquero, or Blackhawk hunter, or the other two's standard Blackhawks.

I developed a 300 gr. load using Sierra jacketed softpoints for elk and bear. They are seated out to far for a Smith and the one friend that had a Colt, shot 4 rounds thru it, and the gun locked up. The Rugers just keep right on eating those things up. However, it does put a hurtin on the wrist after about 15-20 rds.

I have taken 4 deer and 1 elk with my Redhawk, and never leave home without it when going in the woods, whether hunting, berry picking or just hiking and camping. It just feels good on the hip when in the back country.
