The front sight is wrong,should be GOLD and serrated stem,a reason to start looking at everything.Do you have the book "Rifleman's Rifle" or can you get to one?
The front sight base MUST be integral to the barrel at that date and did you pull it out of the stock,look for the backwards "S" The stock should be a low-comb with a steel butt-plate also.
